which ac delco water pump would be the correct/best one to use?
ac delco part # 252776
or
ac delco part # 251603
i called ac delco to ask what the difference was they said that part # 252776 was for "all make" meaning it can fit other applications or projects using the 6.5 diesel motor
part # 251603 is exact replacement for that year and motor, which is also the 6.5 diesel motor
price range is $100 or more difference 251603 is more
alittle confused still but i think the 251603 would be better even though its more
Hey guys, I Installed the D-Max fan kit when I put my new motor in about a year ago. I heavily trimmed the shroud at that time and I had no issues. Now that some time has gone by, I noticed that the fan is contacting the bottom shroud where the hump is to go over the bottom radiator hose. I'm guessing that the new motor mounts installed during installation have settled. My question is; has anyone else had this same issue and secondly, does anyone have any suggestions to add clearance. I initially elongated the bottom holes in the shroud thinking I could pull it down some but the lower rad hose won't allow it. Looking for suggestions before I trim the shroud permanently.
Went ahead and trimmed the shroud by removing a small section. The lower hose has a separate conduit type sleeve on it so that will help protect the hose from the anything coming off the fan blades. It no longer rubs. I used my table saw to cut out the section.
@Wreckinball67 You can get the 9 blade 19" steel fan. It's what I did to restore clearance when I lost a mount due to biodiesel leaking on it. I believe Dorman makes one now. Rock Auto or ebay for a 1998 model year. I have used both and IMO they act the same. Duramax fan better for AC at idle, but, flexes out at high RPM (load) and gives the edge to the steel fan.
Don't forget the trans mount failing that can tilt the works...
It's still 4 bolts to the fan from the fan clutch for either fan. Either spin on or 4 bolt water pump to fan clutch are the same fan bolt pattern. It's why we can use a spin-on clutch fan from a Duramax. (The old Garbage 6 bolt fan and fan clutch are just that.)
