ABS light = Bad Wheel bearing?

Hmmm, a closer look revealed a small cut on the drivers wheel sensor wire. as I pulled on the sheath, the wires separated and look to have been cut all the way though on one wire. Since the hub has to come off to change the sensor, I'm going to repair it for now and see i my abs fault remains.

It would be great if I could return these bearings and buy a fluidampr instead.....

At $160 per, I replaced and I got back my abs. The sensors themselves do go out. I too had changed bearings before. Piece of cake. Then came the '99 from Illinois. I have all the tools too. Luv your cocky confidence.

It not cocky, it just confident.

Working on vehicles in maritime Canada tends to build up your tolerance to ferrous oxide....and this is a BC truck so rust is pretty much non existant.

:)

Aha!

Think I found the issue!

After repairing the drivers side ABS wire I turned the key on and cycled the steering.

No dice.

ABS light comes on with hard right turn.

So I get the drop light right in there and after a couple minutes of probing around I pry open on of the wire clamps at the flex point. Sure enough, it's chaffed right through the rubber sheath, through the wire insulation and into the wiring.

I'll do a quick repair on that too and see if it fixes it.

If that's it, the wheel bearings are going back and I'l change out the two abs sensors.

100bucks in sensors is a lot better than 900 buck in bearings.

maybe I can talk the wife into that fluidampr now!

:)

So far so good!

Can't get the abs to fail after the repair on steering cycling from lock to lock. Spinning the hubs also reveals no faults.

just have to wait for the vulcanizing insulation I've got on there to cure and I'll put it all back together....

;) :agreed:

Well, drove the truck all over town today.

Not a hint of ABS problems and the BECM is fault code free.

I'll say problem is solved!

returned my 900 bucks worth of bearings and picked up a Moog idler arm I've been needing to replace.

:)
