A little pissed tonight.... Windshields

I have yet to have a chip or crack successfully repaired. I stopped trying a couple years ago. Before then I was pretty religious about getting them fixed asap, but every single one eventually continued to crack from the repair point.

Waste of money IMHO

I never have tried it but there are people who offer to do it free in 10 minutes during the summer

GM truck OEM windshields are made by either Pilkington or Saint-Gobain. It will say in the lwr right corner... anything else is aftermarket no matter what the glass guy claims.

State Farm in FL pays 100% for windshield replacement (no deductible or out-of-pocket).

Great info, thanks

So, I let the g/f use my truck today to get to work and she got a stone chip in the windshield. When I got home from her house I noticed a nice crack across the whole bottom of the windshield by the defrost. Man that burns me. :mad5: I know it could happen to anybody but I haven't replaced a windshield in the 3 trucks I have owned. I never follow gravel or salt trucks and have never had a problem. I hate letting people borrow my truck after stuff like this happens.

How much are windshields and should I stick with a GM one or are they all the same quality?

It not only applies to insurance companies but I think state law too. Here in Ky I am pretty sure that the insurance company is required to replace your windshield with no deductible if cracked.

Mine just cracked more tonight. It looks like an upside down t now. It goes all the way across the bottom and straight up directly in front of the wheel.

It is. I think it was the jarring motion of me slamming on the brakes (with the plow on and up) right after I started taking off from a stoplight when some dumb blonde teenager decided she was going to run a red light WAY after it turned red. My light was green for about 2 seconds at the time.

That's where the train horns come in handy!):h

Not entirely true, I have had State farm for over 25 yrs now and we were moved to another agent when ours retired and our new agent brings us in every year to review and make sure we are covered for everything. She told us that for the windshield replacement part that I had for over 20 yrs that it is included in the cost of the insurance. You acutally paid a higher premium for it than if you had a deductible policy. When I was commuting for work, I was getting a windshield every other year. Now that I dont have that to worry about she suggested for lower premiums I should drop that and I did. It amounted to about 10 dollars a month. That ennabled me and the wife to pick up a million dollar umbrella policy for that 10 dollars. So there is a tradeoff but when you only put about 7K miles a year on a vehicle it helps to have coverage in other area for me anyway.
