traveling for work.
i just bought a new a/c compressor because the other was seized. after adding in the 4lbs of freon and a couple cans of oil, i finally had great a/c. this lasted for 2 days. after shutting off the a/c while it was blowing cold, there would be this huge release of pressure into the system. <-- only way to describe the sound.

i looked around for leaks (dust caked on oil spots) and hooked it up to a vacuum. it held up to the vacuum.

any ideas?

also, at sturtup, when i take off.... there is some hesitation to the point of it trying to die. after it gets going, its fine. and this doesnt happen all of the time.

last question.

is it normal to be towing a 6500 lb travel trailer on the interstate and only be able to barely get to 65mph. and slowing down 10 to 15mph on the inclines. i live in nashville, so not to terribly hilly.

thanx a ton,
-patrick

4 lbs sounds like too much to me.Most take 3 unless it's a Suburban with rear A/C. Did you check the service sticker to see how much is required ? Also a couple of cans of oil ??? Oil is supposed to be measured and put into the compressor(if shipped dry, most are). Use either Esther oil or PAG oil(I( prefer esther). Also a hissing sound when you shut the truck off is normal. What you are hearning is the pressurized refrigrant equalizing once the compressor stops turning. If you overcharged the system or put too much oil in you will probably kill the compressor. Overcharging the system will not make it colder and will kill it.

4lbs. its a suburban with rear. i stuck in the required amount of oil. i think 2.5 cans of oil was the number of ounces i was supposed to stick in.
