So I ordered two fan clutches both for the 98 6.5 and both of them are smaller than my 95 and both only have 4 bolt holes for the fan it looks like it should be on a gasser? I thought every one said they should just bolt right up from all the threads I read?
Mine off my truck next to the one I ordered.

the fan blade itself changed around 97. the dmax fan blade bolts right onto the 97+ fan clutch.

Match the bolt holes up for the water pump on the fan clutches. It looks like you might have a gasser fan clutch. The bolt holes for the diesel and gas stuff is different.

The 6 bolt fan is garbage... So the advice above for a 1998 steel fan or Duramax fan is good. Note you may or may not have to trim the fan shroud with the Duramax fan due to it's larger diameter. But the Dmax fan pulls more air at idle IMO.

I ordered the duramax fan blade and no the bolts matched up I just thought it was odd that it was smaller and only a 4 bolt fan I didn't realize I needed a fan also.

Read the MSDS for the "dust" from what they make the fan shroud out of. I suggest you DON'T sand it down!
MSDS? Isn't the fan shroud fiberglass I thought it would just be like sanding my boat down when I do fiberglass work. A good resperator and long sleeves lol.
How should I trim it down a wizzer wheel? Or one of the new handheld vibrating saws used for construction I have one of them also?

I used a die grinder like above with the large fluted bit for cutting aluminum, cuts plastic without plugging up. Just be warned, you can get carried away, lol.
