To test for spark get another working spark plug and plug it into one of the plug wires and ground out the threaded end. While someone turns the engine over watch for a spark.

Pop a plug wire off and stick a screwdriver in it - main coil wire is also a good choice. Spin the engine and look for a spark - screwdriver is 1/2" away from a ground. If you are little crazy hold the screwdriver when a friend cranks it over to feel for a spark. When the feeling returns to your arm you can type it has spark. :hihi:

You can also jump the fuel pump relay and hit an injector with 12v for just a moment to see if they are getting fuel. Try not to flood the engine here.

Cranking do you see fuel from the injectors?
Possible engine flooded - crank the engine at WOT for 30 seconds. This puts the computer in clear flood mode and reduces injection to almost nothing to clear up any flooding.

Checking the signal would be seeing fuel at the injectors. Otherwise you need a scanner to see RPM from the computer. There is not any codes for failure to see a RPM signal - the truck flat stalls or will not start. Trace wires from distributor to check for critter damage.

I HAVE SPARK! I also found a bad plug wire (they are 9 months old) which wouldn't help the sputter. This plug wire rubbed a hole in the wire boot against the header. The wire from the coil to bottom of dist was kinked and worn through NOT chewed. For some reason it picked NOW to take its dump and cause a no spark condition in the begining (another sputter issue possibly).

Now I am not sure if this is the proper way to check fuel pumps on a gasser but I un hooked the line at the filter and had someone crank then tried key on in gear. I DIDN,T GET A DROP. Is this my problem?

I don't see fuel at the injectors.

Where do I jump the fuel pump and injectors, I don't want to fry something. The fuel pump being down seems unlikely/hard to believe but weirder things have happened.

I like that! I got my "education" working on the old points type ignition systems. What I found was that it wasn't the spark that hurt, it was when the back of my head hit the underside of the hood that hurt.
