94 GMC 6.5 turbodeisel starter wiring question

I am trying to find out where the fusible link connects on the starter as well as the other wire. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated. The wiring diagram is very hard to read and a bit vague.

thanx for your reply. my starter actualy has 3 wires: 1) wire is the big wire comming from the battery, 2) wire is a fusible link that is connected by a large crimbed connection with 4 other fusable linkwires, 3) wire ,i think, goes to the starter relay and possible other places . When my batters are hooked up the glow plug stays on all the time ; i disconnected the batters and when i went to reconnect then they sparked with lots of fire so i left them unconnected until the next day and tried again they sparked heavy, we heard a faint click, then i connected the batters with no problem. That is when i disconnected the batterys and put this problem on the forum. to cut a long story short, i forgot to plug the warmer up one night and the next morn the GMC would not start, a friend said i needed some starting fluid and he sprayed either into my engin. the engin locked up, tore up the fly wheel, and wrecked my starter. Either might work on heavy equipment and farm tractors but it is a dirty word to me now . At this time the big battery wire and the fusible link wire are connected on the same big bolt at top and the other wire is connecdted to a side little bolt. Can you plezz help me figure where the 3 wires go ?
 
Got pictures? Sounds like someone hooked up the GP's to the starter? Should go to GP relay.
 
thanx man, i will ck that out. Do you by chance know where the GP relay is and the starter relay ?? I love this old GMC or i would go looking for something else. Greatly Appreciate any advice, thanx

If in stock location GP relay is at rear of driver side intake. Starter solenoid is on the starter where you make the wire connections.
 
I have a 94 Chevy K2500 so I might be able to help you with the starter wiring question.

The first wire is the battery wire as you already know.

The second wire, fusible link, which is also on the large stud with the battery wire, goes to a 12V+ buss bar that is on the passenger side firewall. This buss bar is under a black plastic T shaped cover just towards the drivers side from the coolant reservoir. There are several studs, with wires, that supply 12V+ to various areas in the vehicle.

The third wire is the wire from the ignition switch. The smaller cylindrical item on top of the starter, which have all the wires connected to it, is the starter solenoid. The solenoid is the only relay in the starter system that I know of on a 94.

The heavy gauge wire from the battery goes onto the large stud. The smaller wire with the fusible link also goes onto the large stud. This is what supplies 12V+ to operate all the systems in the vehicle. The small wire that goes on the small stud is what connects the ignition switch to the starter and excites the starter solenoid when you turn the ignition key to start position.

As you have already found out, NEVER EVER use ether to start the 6.5. The glow plugs will react in a very bad way to ether and can cause major damage as you had, or even worse as in possible bent rods.

I have had no problems with my glow plug system, but from your description it sounds like the glow plug relay is sticking in the on position part of the time.

Thanx Don, your info is a big help and i am going out to look at all the things you pointed out. I agree with you on everything you said and i too think you are very possibly correct about the glow plug relay sticking open. Your info is Greatly appreciated and thank you again.

Well, my GMC 6.5 deisel is running now ! Thanx for all your help and advice; I was able to figure out my problem. Approximately 4 years ago i tore up my ring gear and starter because i sparyed either into my 6.5 , won't do that again, and because my heart started beating over 300 times a minute I wasn't able to fix the GMC . A relative atempted to fix it for me and i think he evidently cut off the injecter end of a fusible link and connected it with the big hot wire from battery to the big lug on my starter ; this made my glo plug light stay on all the time the battery was hooked up whether the key was in the ignition switch or not and needless to say , burned up a fusible link, and also both wires going to glo plug relay were hot. My 6.5 GMC is supposed to have only 2 wires connected to starter, big hot wire from battery to big lug and the smaller wire from switch connected to a smaller side lug on starter. I think a Chevrolet surburban might be hooked up differently but with all the info you good people gave me i was able to figure out how my GMC 6.5 works. I could have a weird wiring system but after i put an injecter end on the fusible link and plugged it on the injecter my deisel turned over about 8 times before it fired up after being silent for several years. As for my hart, Cleveland Clinic fixed my " A fib " firing problem and i am 100% ok now. Cleveland Clinic in Ohio is the best heart hospital in the world ; This site and you great people here are the best source of information and help i found after looking for several months. I appreciate your help, thanx.
