Ok guys whats the best method to get the waste gate unstuck on a stock GM3 turbo???? My 93 chevy makes like 14psi of boost with the stock wastegate deal and I started a home built turbo master but removing the stock stuff realized the waste gate arm is stuck in the housing!!! How can I go about freeing it up?? Ive put an adjustable wrench on it and CANT move it!!! sprayed it with Nut Buster(like PB blaster).....Ive got the back off the turbo(where down pipe hooks too) and its almost all the way shut, but is still open so its blowing off pressure but I want it to work right!! any ideas??? Or anyone wanna sell a GM4 turbo cheap? or another style stock turbo that will work?

keep soaking it with the penetrating oil. You might try heating the housing around the shaft up.

I may have parts available off my GM3. I will check it out when I have time and see if the turbo is ok or just parts.

I cant heat it, I dont have a torch, and cant get access to one till late monday....So if worse comes to worse, ill reassemble the truck and keep driving it like it is(its been like this for a while im sure)....Veg_out, whats your method??? Id buy a good used turbo if needed!! I just want that thing fixed so I have a backup truck again!!

Put a load on that 93 and give it enough fuel and the recommended limit of 14 PSI is where it starts out at... The DB2 has no protection for over boost.

It just kills your mileage with a restrictive air heater turbo...

I think you can just change the housing that has the flapper in it. I will be sure when I tear mine apart.

Or you can look at other turbo replacement options like an ATT etc.

STF

I'd go with ATT myself if you could find the way to make it happen, falling short of that try to hook up with someone wanting to go to ATT that wants to sell their removed GM turbo, I'd offer up one of mine but I traded one for a pistol, and sold the other one, have you looked in our classified area to see if some one had one for sale?

Yep found a guy that switched to ATT and wants $300 for his old turbo with turbo master....BUT im not quite budgeted for that, but that may be the way I gotta go...The guy has a GM6, will that bolt in place of my GM3? whats different about an ATT turbo?? IVe NEVER seen advertisements for them? My 03 cummins is getting all the goodies, and my 93 is gonna be fixed and prolly sold as im looking for an 03 or early 04 2500 cummins like my 03!!!

Yes GM6 will fit but you'll have to fit up a TM to make it work the WG, ATT will work also and yes it will work with a 93, but you'll have to turn up the IP on your DB-2 to get max benefit from it. I suggest if interested you contact Slim Shady as he's inventor of the ATT with some help on the "plug & play" & R&D by me, Dennis is up to speed on the DB-2 as well

My IP is cranked up all the way....Man Im still reallly not wanting to drop $760 in a truck I wont drive but once a month(hehe dad and everyone else gets more use of it then me!)....Ok thanks, Ill have to get ahold of him and see what he says...

What do you do with the truck. IP all the way up can't look good on the gauges unless you or whoever is running around town unloaded.

I suspect that if the gauges do look good your lift pump is failing like mine did and starving the IP for fuel at higher RPM's. My boost dropped off at higher RPMS till I replaced the LP after total failure. I had to back the TM off after the LP replacement...

In any case you need to see if there is a cost benefit for a better turbo. Aww hell, have to drive a 6.5 even once a month over something like your 2003 is worth every performance mod you can do to the 6.5.

Mainly yes its driven around town unloaded....Every once in awhile it pulls our car trailer, and maybe soon our 5th wheel camper.....Ive put on a brand new lift pump about 1000 miles ago, and that fixed my very crappy running after I replaced the return lines on the injectors.... I get plenty of boost dont get me wrong!! hehe but Id like to control the boost....14 psi and sometimes u can get 20 psi if u stab it right on a wet road...YEs my block temp goes NUTS when she passes 10psi.....Thats why im wanting to get down around 8psi, a happy spot for me cause I know its not a power house...

Ok guys im thinking of going ATT whats some folks thoughts??? How much better is the ATT turbo over a GM turbo??? DO you get better fuel mileage? MY ip is cranked up all the way anyone else got their turned up with an ATT turbo?

1/3 turn on IP and max of 14 PSI sustained at high load towing...

I never did find the rest of 4 glow plugs when I tore down my 93 6.5. But a cooling issue and hot oil scuffed a piston that burned through leading to the tear down.

Just not much you can do to the GM turbo without it becoming an exhaust choke and intake air heater. IE outside it's max efficiency range of 14 PSI. Even then the drive pressure on the exhaust is high vs. other turbo options.

Ask yourself if you want a 1/4 mile truck or a towing truck for example before you decide on a turbo option.

Just so you guys know we have had recent pms and I answered his questions there. :D

The ATT would be a good match as I told you however an aftermarket exhaust (down pipe) would be your first and easiest mod if you can swing it. The 6.5 can be made to pull like a Cummings in stock or slightly modified state. It just needs a little TLC and mods to get there. I would also check into the running hot issue under boost.

YEs Slim Shady has answered all my questions, now Id like some input from people who have them!! The running hot underboost issue im not sure what it is...radiator is as clean as I can get it, full of coolant, so leaning towards turbo makes engine work to hard(to much back pressure as wastegate is stuck almost all the way closed but is open slightly) or I need a new thermostat.....
