Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I have an opportunity to buy a 93 CC C3500 w/6.5 turbo and manual trans that a tree has fallen, on damaging the cab. The engine has approx 75K (different IP) not sure about the trans. I have a 94 3500HD Cab and Chassis 6.5 turbo w/auto runs ok as of now. My question, would a $900 investment to buy the truck for spare parts be worth it. The main parts I would want is the trans for a swap down the line when the auto gives up the ghost, also would the engine swap (keeping the manual IP) be difficult. None of the frame parts would fit mine. Sorry for the long post, just need some guidance sense being new to the 6.5

Short answer, yes I think it would be worth $900 for the parts you can get out of it.

You would have everything you need to do the trans swap, minus maybe the driveshaft.... Not sure of the wheel base differences between the CC C3500 and your HD. Also the rear crossmember for the trans, I am not sure if bolts differently on an HD truck as compared to a regular C3500.

Engine swap won't be difficult at all, especially with using the 5 speed behind it. The hardest part of swapping from an electronic IP to a mechanical IP is dealing with the electronic automatic trans, but since you are changing that as well, you are good to go.

It should be worth all of that and more. Just a nv4500 transmission at a junkyard costs more than $900. Just because of the weight of the truck they are worth more than $500 for scrap. You can always offer less to see if The seller will take less.
You might want to consider getting a cab for the damaged truck. I've seen decent cabs sell for as little as $200 .

Wrecked trucks go for $1000.00 on up here. You can't loose that much and will likely make $$.

BUY IT.....Quick!.....Before someone else does.

Go there with $750 in one pocket CASH......Put it in his hand, If he gives it back NEGOTIATE.....JMHO.

BT, that is odd you say $750, that is what I offered him yesterday, but his wife said $900. He has had it for a while, may wait a little longer. He said he would get back to me in a few days.

To all, thanks for the replies. I must say, this is by far the better forum I have used. I have tried to use others, but only the "regulars" post and get replies. Again, THANK YOU ALL. I am learning a lot from reading the tech section. I will let you all know if I get the truck. It is suppose to have a rebuilt front end (2WD). If I get it I will sell the frame if anyone may be interested, big IF though. By the way how much does a C#%)) CC long bed, manual & 6.5 weigh?

so let me get this straight, it is a 1993, crew cab, long box, 6.5L, 5speed, and 2 wheel drive? is the title scarred yet, or can one get a clean cab, and basically have a clean title truck in good shape? is it white? do you guys get any rust down there? how much profit do you want to make? :) as you can see, I love my manual transmission 2 wheel drives, so I am interested!

I will tell you this, the NV4500 wont be quite right for a 3500HD. you need the version that has the mounted parking brake, as 3500s have an axle mounted parking brake system, but the 3500HDs have the transmission mounted parking brake.

for your 3500HD specific questions, I will advise you to visit the forum dedicated to it. 3500HD.com there was a guy there down in texas that had a HD specific NV4500 for sale. hey, would you trade a 3500HD spec. NV4500 for a 93 crew cab with cosmetic issues? :)

No brainer IMHO, grab it. You could part is out and easily double your money. Nice to have a 75k motor laying around though for a spare..Most of us Avid 6.xx owners have our own little junkyards going anyway.....:D

Just for ex...
75k motor...1500$
2wd Nv4500...600$
Rear Diff....400$
Rad (if good)...75$
These are the example of the low end of going rate...
