88GMCtruck's 98 Silverado Towpig Build: "Black Fox"

Time for an update!

After awhile of searching, I found another Lund Coldfront that fits this truck. I've had one on my 88 for years now, and it's great in the winter. Warms up faster. These have been discontinued awhile now, glad to have found it. new in box.

Also had a successful trip to the junkyard, found a set of 08+ Express/Savana HVAC knobs for my truck. I then picked up a 4th and modified it to fit on the headlamp switch which involved cutting the shaft down and dremeling the knob itself to fit. Really think it gives it a more modern look and ties together nicely with the stereo and the escalade handles.

We also had a good 8-10" of snow yesterday... first time I've had snow at my actual house in years. Couldn't resist taking the dually out in it to work, and later took the 88 out to play around.

Love this sight at home

Once it got later, I swapped over the driver's door from the suburban since it had better paint than mine; that was one of the reasons I bought a black parts truck.

Oh, on my last junkyard trip I scored these: GMT800 crewcab body trim. Have been looking for a set for a long while now.

With the door swapped and old body trim removed, I was able to install the new trim. Can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can wash it and get decent pictures with the new trim!

the headlight knob looks classy. OEM knob always looked clunky to me.
couple of your pics didn't show up. truck looks great!

Truck additions really look good as always.

You were talking about just getting some snow, the first in years, I am really surprised at that since your way up in the North West. Is it that your at a lower elevation maybe?

Question? How did the dually go in the snow?

Heck, I live in the mid Atlantic area and have had two pretty decent snows this year. Enough to get salt all over the truck again of course. Wasn't for road salt my truck wouldn't have an rust anywhere.... Sunday morning they had salted the roads again, maybe they thought there was some freezing rain I guess. But it is 63 degrees right now and a chance of thunderstorms, imagine that in February and then Thursdays high will be 38 with snow. Its wear short sleeves a few days then break out the flannel shirt the next day or so. This winter has been all jacked up.

So David educate me on how you go about finding that cold front. I have that on my 96 would like to find one for my 99

Yeah where I live there is snow and mountains only an hour away, but i'm lower elevation (few hundred feet above sea level) and we get heavy marine influences. Mostly it just rains.

The dually was interesting in the snow, it was wet, heavy and deep snow, and the tires were still at 70PSI. A little squirrelly.

Is your 99 also a GMC? 95-02 GMT400 cold front is Lund 26201. I had to do some searching in old catalogs to find that.

part number is good for gmc but nothing on chevy. lund doesn't seek to make one.

So you found an online catalog or a paper one?
I used an internet archive page to find a listing, it took awhile. I can't recall where as this was a few months ago.

I bet the 88 did pretty good in the snow.
It does do quite well!

Trucks look great!
Thanks!

Lund doesn't currently produce any cold fronts, but they did make one for a chevy long ago.

Cleaned up shot with the new body molding. Damn i need to get the chrome rear bumper on this thing pronto!

I also have a full set of diamond plate bedrail caps, Debating on installing those or not.... Worried they would be too much on a black truck.

Damn, every time you update it gets better!!! Is the door trim off of a Denali? That's not just your standard door trim...

That is just regular GMT800 GMC trim actually, nothing too special although it's not the most common one to see.

--------

Some time back (2015) I picked up a set of OEM fog brackets in the junkyard. I finally broke down and bought a set of new GM lenses for them. The goal was to run an amber HID in them for adverse conditions, well the HID hit the bulb shield inside. So a few hours of playing around led me to separating the lenses and moving the bulb shield forward. and HID is tight fit in these.

Then I had to get a valance to complete the look, and of course fogs and towhooks were never offered together to I had to cut my own holes for the fogs...
