After a brief discussion with Turbine Doc about what kind of Suburban I have, I might have a bit of an oddball.

Here is what I believe that I have:
GMC Suburban C1500 w/6.5 TD, 8 lug axles, 4x4

Tim asked me to post my VIN also:

3GKGK16F4XG543310

According to LMC Truck, my VIN is as follows:
Mexico built
GM MPV
GVW 8001-9000
4wd
1/2 ton
Suburban
6.5 TD
1999
Silao, Mexico

Tim was thinking that the 1/2 ton 4wd Suburban was what is odd.

4WD is "K" so K1500/K2500.
The weight rating is 3/4 ton. And heavy 3/4 ton at that with the 8000 rating.

So you have a 8 lug heavy 3/4 K2500.

Someone swap doors on you?

The diesel burbs got 8 lug wheels (I think it started in 94 thru 99), even the half-ton diesel versions. You should also have an "F" engine. So it is a 1500 with a frame that is closer to a 3/4 ton. You probably have 3.42 axle. They were only offered with the 1/2 ton.

Really the difference is only in axles, and different axles had differences in brakes if I recall correctly.

I have a 1/2 ton, 4X4, with 8 bolt wheels and 3.42 axles. They are a little rare but you can find them. Not to be a smart A$$ but if you have a front differential you have a 4X4, perhaps someone converted it to 2 wheel drive?

I am the 2nd owner of vehicle. As far as I know, the doors are factory.

I know I have 4wd. I will have to check the RPO codes for the axle ratios.

You do realize that the "c" is for 4x2 trucks and the "k" is for the 4x4 trucks so if you a 4x4 it would be a k1500 or k2500. What's the big deal anyway?

No big deal, but my door badges do say C1500 and I do have 4x4.

Oh well, just wondering if it was rare or not.

Thanks,
Todd

Somebody added the C then as GM only put 1500 or 2500 on the doors. The 1500 BURB has softer rear springs, a 9.5" semi floating rear axle, and 3.42 gears in it to give it a 8300 GVWR whereas the 2500 got the 14 bolt 10.5" full floating rear axle, 8600 GVWR, and either 3.73 or 4.10 gears. There is alot of confusion over the 1500 BURBS, and many with them still swear they are 2500's because of the 8 lug wheels when they are actually 1500's. GM can be pretty confusing with the 1500/2500 rating as pickups could be a 2500 with 6 lugs and a diesel, but the BURB 1500 could have 8 lugs.

I have a 95 c1500 Suburban 2wd with 8 lugs. The axle are 3.42 and it's a 9.5" 14 bolt semi-floater rear axle. Withe the 2wd trucks, it's pretty easy to bring it to a 2500 spec as all I have to do is to look for a 2500 10.5" rear axle and I'm at a 3/4 ton stats. As a matter of fact, I may end up doing that.

My apologies to all who tried to inform me of what I actually have!! Don't know why I thought that I had a "C" in front of the 1500 on the door. Just stubborn and boneheaded as my wife would agree.

Thanks for the input. I guess I have a 99 Suburban k1500.

Love this forum.

Todd

300 LBS isn't a 1/4 ton difference. No wonder it is confusing.

surely in both 1500 and 2500, the 2wd burbs are the the rare ones?
My 94 burb has 3.73s and a G80 in a 10.5 Full floater.

I need to get a motor in it, just need to decide wether to just throw one in and run it, or to get an optimizer for supreme reliability.

You let me know if you wanna get rid of that semi-floater would you!??
