Have you ever pumped Gasoline into your Diesel trucks tank by mistake? If so was it at a BP station?

Yes
No

I almost did the other day at a BP station. For some reason the BP station have their gas nozzles in a green cover. Everywhere else that I buy diesel only the diesel pump handles are green.

Just yesterday a friend of mine was in Alabama, he stopped to fill up at a BP station. He pumps his fuel and walks into pay and the young clerk, that was a girl by the way, says to him "You do realize that you pumped gas into your truck". Of course he had not noticed,. Luckily their was a mechanic near by that towed him to his shop dropped the tank and drained it for $100 bucks. My buddy was so impressed that he tipped him another $100.

My point is that I think this happens at BP more than any other station.

No and I hope I never will. I always make sure the young kids grab the right handle and push the DIESEL button. Now as for me, when I fill up my Harley or my wifes car I always take a second look and make sure its GAS.

at the BP's in town the diesel pump is separate and in between 2 gas pumps. never done it or even came close that I remember. The diesel pump handles are always soaked in diesel from the foam not kicking them off (I guess?) so if my hand isnt coverd in diesel when I grab it I would think something is wrong :D

Nope. Most stations I've ever been to either have them in a separate island off to the side for big-rigs, or at least have a green handle. Never fuel at BP usually.

Nope, not even close. Considering that a diesel nozzle has no vapor recovery boot on it, and gas nozzles do, I think it would be kinda hard not to notice.

I'll agree though, BP's green boots on their nozzles could be confusing, but shouldn't diesel boots be yellow, same as diesel fuel cans?

I gotta ask. who is BP? is it a U.S. deal only?
British Petroleum. Used to be Amoco (Standard Oil before that)

Just about all of the nozzles in my area have standardized on yellow now. I don't buy from any BPs around me. Not enough diesel volume.

I haven't. But considering I have dropped my boat in the water with out the plug twice, it is possible. Fortunately the boat never made it off the trailer before I noticed.

I have never pumped gas into my diesel trucks. Hope it stays that way too.

I do fuel up at bp since there is one near me (less then a mile away) and has plenty of diesel traffic at it to always make sure there is fresh fuel there. I never really thought of the green boot on the pump handle causing a big problem, but I do think it would be nice if everywhere could get together and make all the diesel pump handles yellow. Since that is the standard color for that fuel.

I've never actually used/seen a fuel pump with the "Vapor Boot" so I can see it happening around here, but maybe not somewhere that uses the boots.

I see Murphy's by me, where I usually buy my fuel, just put a new nozzle on and lo and behold... it's got a green boot on it.

It's been a few years since I bought fuel in Minnesota, but I could have sworn the pumps do have the vapor recovery boots.
