60MPH+ on the front diff safe ?

Cool, that should fix it! :) Be sure to put the U-joints on the proper way so you can reach the grease fitting without undoing the clamp!!:mad2::mad2:

Having them installed at the DS shop along with hangar bearing. I hate pounding U joints out and I don't have a shop press. Worth the money to have them do it.

Yep, this truck is going to travel. I gotta download but it's another victim of New England. I'll post that stuff in my other thread.

here's pics of the U joint and the phasing of the two shafts.

The rear tube was .60 out of whack so I had it retubed with new hanger and all new u joints. As soon as I fix the fuel system I will hopefully have a sucessful shake free test drive. Cost me 380$ so I hope it solves the problem.

I did this once on an army 5 ton truck. Snapped a drive shaft, removed on side of autobahn, put front diff in "lock". Drove all the way from Grafenwoehr to Mannheim, Germany. No issues whatsoever.

You may want to run sealed u-joints as these are said to be tighter for towing. Word from my DS shop anyway. I also tried a poly carrier bearing and that buzzed/vibrated like crazy at 65-70 even with a prop shaft balance. But this was with greasable u-joints. They could not get the shaft balanced well due to the bearing being poly and not rubber. At least that is what they said.

The angle of the rear diff may have been off as I has launch shudder bad before the poly bearing. Cured one and got another issue.

most driveline shops have no clue what they are doing, FYI there are no shops in the northeast that can do real "high speed" balancing, 3000 shaft rpm is the max you get around here.

as far as the front diffs holding up, they will take the abuse of driving in FWD without complaining.

I like greasable. I wanna see it come out when I pump it. The shop that did mine seems pretty reputable. So far so good. Minor shake from the crappy Firestones. Never again will I buy that garbage.

About 500. Nope on the synthetic. I run Rotella in everything. You saw first hand how many diesels I have. Easier to keep one kind of oil and buy it in bulk. Ran Rotella for years with no issues. Switched to 15w40 after i sold my last Detriot but before that I ran 30w.
