ok i have a 95 k2500 6.5 f code suburban. i got it as a basket case guessed my way through the assembly and dont even know if i had it right but after 3 months of driving it i love the damn thing! then one day it threw the belt that was 3 weeks ago , i found the front pulley to the harmonic balancer wsa bad so i replaced it. still wont keep a belt more than a couple of minutes!!!!!!! i keep buying tensioners from autozone and napa but i think they are cheapos. i think that the maine problem is that the belt from the ac pump to the alternator although apparently lined up well keeps walking off the front of the tensioner. the pic of the front of a 6.5 in the tensioner thread shows the tensioner on the left but mine is on the right. it dosent line up with the rest of the pulleys. so i am shimming it.i used all the parts that came with the truck and assume them to be the right ones. i made an alternator stiffening bracket since mine was missing but that dosent seem to help. any ideas or part numbers? 6.5s around here are about as common as responsible polititions! so i am haveing a lot of trouble finding parts,and a look at another one.:mad2:

update your signature with yr & model info saves you some typing post to post & us from having to search or remember your config, the picture in the tensioner thread is for a 98 OBD-II truck with AC on driver side, I suspect a idler pulley if you have that setup, vac pump, or maybe even a/c pulley locked up or locking up

1995 model :
Alternator, tensioner -> driver side
AC -> passenger side

later models after with the dual t-stats have the tensioner on the passenger side.

Alternator + tensioner -> passenger side
AC -> driver side

HOPE THIS HELPS :

EXC C60 -> Without AC
C60 -> WITH AC
KXB - WITH DUAL ALTERNATORS

Is the power steering pulley all the way on the shaft?[outside of pulley flush with the end of the shaft] Is the idler bearing in the a/c pump tight?[no sideways slop]Is the belt within range on the tensioner?

Just making sure... you haven't had anything else unbolted from the front of the engine, have you? Alternator bracket, PS pump, Vac pump... ?

I remember one of the other 95 owners having the same problems because he either misplaced or forgot to put a bracket back when he did that.

ok i dont have one. how thick are they? i gues i could shim it if i knew the thickness. thank you this must be it

It is 3/16 thick. Here's some pics of what it looks like without the tensioner and alternater in the way
