alright guys I've got a 1996 3/4 ton with 6.5 td I hadn't had any issues out of it until the other day. Pulled up to gas station and shut it off came out no more than five minutes later and wouldn't restart. While trying to start grinded off a few teeth of the flex plate. Replaced flex plate and started to diagnose the problem. After a couple hours I'm leaning towards electrical issues. Just wondering if I could get some input. From what I can tell it's getting fuel to the injectors. Anyone out there had any simiair issues?

Also check fuel pressure at IP. 96 should run the LP for a bit while the glow plugs are on so it should build pressure.

I don't have a spare pmd unfortunately. But will check fuel pressure. Do yall know what the fuel pressure should be. I'm getting fuel squirting out of the top of the filter head when unscrewed and key on.

Maybe you lost a battery or bad starter/battery cables? You need 100 RPM cold and 150 RPM hot to start. If the engine is turning slower than normal, by sound you can hear it, look at the starting system. No, You are not going to jump start it even with another dual battery diesel unless your batteries are good. A starter can loose 1 of 4 brushes and it slows it down a lot, but, still spins and will pass a bench test.

You have loosened an injector line and it has fuel when cranking?

I replaced starter since I replaced the flex plate just in case that was the cause of grinding teeth. At the time I only had one 18 wheeler battery on there and it was doing fine up until now never had an issue starting. I went ahead and tree another on just to be sure though. When I first pulled injector line I was getting fuel just not entirely sure if it was residual or not.

The rear bracket on the starter is critical. Make sure it's on and if it isn't don't crank the engine till it is or you can break the starter mount clean off the block and get to replace the engine!

Do you have a SES and STS light on the dash with key on indicating the ECM is getting power? Wait 30 seconds after key off before turning back on as the lights are random with shorter times. (The ECM isn't completely off for 30 seconds after key off.)

Any smoke when spinning the engine? (Exhaust)

Spin the engine with the line off. It will drip more fuel if it's getting fuel.

In depth on the PMD recommendation you can test if it is working as the pdf's in this link have voltages etc.

Thanks for the help guys. Sorry it took me so long to reply. Don't have as much time to work on it as I would like. I cracked the line again. I am still getting fuel out. Ive checked grounds and they all seem fine. Even moved the ones from the water block off plate to the manifold. I am not getting any smoke while trying to crank either.

Well guys we got it runnng it ended up being the a/c compressor being locked up. If I would have had more than one set of eyes at a time I would have found that a lot faster. We pulled the belt and as soon as we did it fired right up. I appreciate all the help from yall trying to diagnose the problem.

Now remember the sound of it spinning over slow compared to it spinning over fast now. You can tell by ear if it's spinning slowly. SO when it comes up again...
