I brought my truck to a friends shop to deal with a fuel leak,found fuel coming from I P area. He has an engine removed from a boat buried in the catch all area of the shop.he thinks it’s 6.5,I will dig it out soon it’s mine if I want it. Not sure what year or even if capatable. Complete mother low hrs, my truck is a 98 6.5 259k miles needs glow plugs and possible I P at least. Question where are the numbers located and how do I read them to determine what engine and year. Any help would be appreciated. I have my my intake manifold off and tomorrow pulling the pump glow plugs and maybe injectors am also fabricating exhaust from a system removed from F 700 Cummins and upgrading lift pump for now.
 
Year doesn’t really matter, but where bell housing bolts are is a couple numbers that matter. There is thread here somewhere in stickies that tells how to translate to date. Take pic of them. Also any castings designs in valley of engine.

The IP will have an Id Tag, post that pic also. IP doesn’t always age well just sitting. Water inside is death to pump and injectors.

Find the leak for sure- misdiagnosed IP as bad
is the #1 error of these engines.
 
Hoping it’s a line under the pump or connection to pump.this is mostly new to me, I have no problem wrenching diagnostic work I suc at. Thank god I have help,if I can salvage parts from this motor I can apply the money saved towards my wish list. Thanks for the info
I know nothing about the marine engines, just saying, Nice find.
 
Pull the intake manifold and fire it up, You will soon find the leak then.
After installing new injectors on My enjun, I fired it up before installing the turbo, Had two loose connections,
Happy that I did not just bolt it all together and expect the best. LOL
 
I'm hoping to have it fixed and running today if I'm ambitious enough.or better yet get lost till Monday and hope my buddy gets ambitious before then.lol
 
I find it impossible to just turn someone else loose at wrenching on My trucks. LOL
The intake manifold is a relatively easy task to remove, just needs some ambition, something I seem to be lacking of these days. LOL
 
It's good to know I'm not alone on the ambition thing the hardest part of the whole job is getting off your ass to start it.LOL and yes always regret letting someone else wrench.
