My neighbor needs a 6.5 for his 1997 or 1998 k1500. Any longblock or drop in recomendations? I am in Canada but have a US address to ship it to. His existing engine has 380,000km or so. Should be ok for a core as it is still running. Thanks

Kennedy Diesel. I have used his and they use the new style blocks. Just about everything was new in it.

I've had 3 long blocks and I can say you get what you pay for. Also John was only a few hundred more than others that think their motor is so good.

Very true. Plus in the event something happens, he will make it right.

Can't recommend anyone from experience but JK has a great reputation.

I always build my own Iron from the dirt up then I know who to scream at when it is not quite the way I want.

Thanks for the reply's...I think I would build my own as well if it was for my Burb...(more reason to drive my Porsche):)...he needs his truck as he is a contractor.

5400$ is way too much to spend on a 12 yr old truck IMHO. Trust me, He'll never get it back. Unless the truck is a labor of love either drop a used one in or cash for clunker it. He could buy another 6.5 truck running cheaper than that. I'll sell him mine. If the tranny goes next that's another 2k+. JMHO 6.2s go cheap and the lower end is stronger. swap the 6.5 gear to it.

I often think of this also... Say he already did the tranny a few years back, and has been maintaining the truck very well... like stated truck is still running ATM.... Putting 5k in a truck that the rest is strong, brand new longblock, one driver, knows 6.5's, could last 20 years...

Granted other things will go, but new vehicles break down too, and often times more expensive to fix.

New truck payment could cost more than that per year.

Buying a new truck could bag-of-worms all over you too in an expensive hurry...

He could buy yours, but he still has a truck with 180k on the engine..... Instead of 0.
