I can't argue with that part ... I found a 3-53 turbo Detroit as well, that would've worked pretty nicely in it too ... Or it would have been a good bargaining chip, to try and deal a 4-53 ... I may still pick it up, just to have it .. The price is right .... But a diesel in this truck would definitely be alot cooler indeed
OK I briefly ran through the thread. The bell housing on the New Process does not have the same 4 bolt as a GM trans have. Cut the bell housing out for the starter nose I have done it works fine. Get a new solid flywheel for a 6.5 and use the clutch you have. There are no front mount holes on a 6.5. I would mount side mounts on the frame in the truck and use regular mounts. The front cross member will probably hit the front of the 6.5. That NP542 will hold anything you can dream up on that 6.5. I have a NP540 in my GMC dually with a 4-53t Detroit pushing a lot of power. Big blocks did come in those trucks they were mostly 366 BBC.
Thanks for the information... I have a line on a Detroit engine that I think I'm going with instead .. As well as I found a SAE bellhousing .. So it likes that's the new plan .. I always figured if I found a Detroit I would use that instead.
Yours should already have an SAE bellhousing on it fro mwhat I found. Most all of them I could find for the GM's used an SAE bellhousing, and then a steel SAE to GM ADAPTER plate that the starter bolted to. So check yours before you go and buy one.
Yea no adapter on those trucks. Detroit's have different adapters. Try to find one that fits the heavy duty 5spds. Make sure you know what sae housing you are getting if you go that route. Also make sure you have corresponding flywheel. Like I said it is easier to use the housing for the heavy duty trans. The trans you have is a heavy duty.
A nv4500 is still too light for what I'll be doing with this truck .. Besides the fact that I want to keep the bandstyle emergency brake, and I like the heavy rear yolk .. I've seen plenty of NV4500's go out.. the tranny in this thing is going to last alot longer ... And i don't really need a OD, I've got enough gearing
My GPA has the same truck with a 476 V6 toroflo diesel. Fuel pump and injectors off a turbo bus, never found it a turbo though. Doesn't have a Clark trans, might have the same you have. His is a "working 5 speed" and is made for a 2 speed rear. His has a full air brake kit from when he used it otr, now it's a wheat truck.
I always wanted a similar truck to shove a P400, lots of fuel, and an ATT. I figure the truck will be running 3k down the road and the ATT will be right where it likes it with plenty of gearing to get off the line
