6.5 Hard Cold Start

Did you jump the truck? That can cause it too.

At this point, you probably want to get the tool.

Make sure it said 60G on it.

I found this http://www2.otctools.com/otctools.com/literature/201-1.pdf also looked at leroydiesel.com version and it seems to be better but is another 30$. Recommendations?

As a diesel mechanic I bought them and was not impressed. As a Mac Tools guy I was less impressed at the amount of problems I heard about from customers using them. At an annual tool fair one year I asked an otc rep about these and he said he can't believe they still make them. I am a fan of otc tools but not this one.

I have not used Leroy's but when I need one that is what I will buy. Sometimes you get what you pay for, hopefully this is the case here.

I have not had problems with the Bosch plugs swelling. Has anyone? Or have I just been lucky so far?

You have to start the engine,to pop them out with pressure. It works but it's dangerous, they shoot out like a bullet.

Please video this if you try this method. It has :redneck: written all over it! Of course it needs to be all 8 at once.

Ok thanks for everyone's help. I have actually jumped the truck a few times this past winter due to it having weak batteries and me being to cheap to buy new ones. I'm going to order up leroydiesel.com removal tool. looks like my best option. I also ordered 8 new bosch duratherms so hopefully this will never happen again.

Got you order, will mail this AM. Thank you.

Strange that it hapended with 60g's. When you get a few pulled look at the base of plug and see what make they are, I'm wondering if they got swithed in the box possibly? to another brand?

Well I got Leroys tool and it worked great on the drivers side. Turns out the glow plugs I pulled out are actually 11g and not 60g as they were advertised. Oh well. I have another question though. To get at the passenger side GP(all 4 are swollen) will I have to remove the exhaust manifold? I don't see a way of doing it without removing it but figured I would ask before I try to get those manifold bolts out, which look like they will be pretty difficult.

No need to remove manifold, it tighter for sure. Remove inner fender and you will have room. Pics of the procees would help future pepole with the same problem. Pics of the GPs would be cool to see also.

Well I finally got the inner fender off and used Leroys tool to get the 4 GP out of the passenger side. If anyone has any swollen GP I would definitely recommend buying Leroys tool. Its worth every penny and is definitely better then trying to remove an injector and get the tip out. Either way though all of GP are out of the engine and I was going to install the new Duraterms but apparently they are a 10 mm and not a 3/8 like the ACDelcos. Oh well just one more trip to home depot to get the right socket. Anyway here is a pic of the swollen GP 7/8 were to swollen to get out.photo (6).jpgphoto (7).jpg And there is a pic of the tools setup to pull out the #5 cylinder GP. I believe your supposed to turn the outside of the tool as to not twist the GP tip off but I had no way of turning it with the exhaust manifold on so I just held the outside with a wrench and turned the inside(did this on all 4 on the passenger side). Ended up working great and they all came out perfectly. I will get the Duraterms in tonight and will post a video of the result. Thanks for everyone's help.

SUCCESS, I got the duraterms in and it fired right up

However if you watch the video you'll notice that it chugs for like 3 seconds then stops. Also there was air going through the clear IP return line. But that could be from replacing the IP feed line and removing the side cover to turn the pump up. either way it stopped chugging and seems to run great. Thanks for everyone's help, and thanks for the great GP removal tool Leroydiesel.

Awesome, glad it worked & glad you did'int have to pull the heads like I did (before I made the tool)
