6.5 gets thumbs up from Cummins

I know I'm a little late on this, but I just wanted to say something about this post. It is probably one of the best I have ever seen in any 6.5 forum, IMHO. No other post has made me quite as proud to be a 6.2/6.5'er. As a few of you know, I have been having a couple issues with my truck since January. Even so, I still love the truck, the engine, and am still proud to have it, and be part of this community. I must admit, I'm not a fan of the electronic injection right now, but I plan to do some great things with electronic Injection on my beloved 'Ole Red. Why, because I can. For some reason, this seems to be one of the most friendly, close-knit automotive groups I've ever seen. I'm also on many other Diesel forums, and nowhere else do I see such a group of people. It is true that the 6.5 has a cult-like, mafia following. I do not know why, but it does. Great post, Jim. Makes me truely proud to be a 6.5'er. :cheers2:

RCpullerdude and Jifaire, very well said. The 6.5 community is deff one of the most helpfull and down-to-earth groups I have encountered. The six five is a great motor with alot of potential if you dont mind doing some upgrades.

We use alot of different trucks in our family business, both new and old, and last year bought back my 6.5 i drove in high school. Why? As soon as I sold it to upgrade to a newer truck I missed it. Everyone in town knew the truck and the distinctive sound. It was different. My 06 Dmax blends in with all the rest of the trucks on the road. I have since bought a 95 1500 6.5 that I couldnt pass up, for my daily driver. I spend hours in the truck almost everyday and still prefer to drive the ol six five.

I was trying to explain this to my gf the other day, and i think i have found a valid reasoning for why i love these trucks (not that i needed a reason). With most of the newer trucks on the road, upgrades in performance and fuel economy are as easy as 1-2-3. Anyone can go and buy a tuner/programmer, plug it in, and thats it. More power. Now personally i enjoy tinkering, modifying, and building parts myself to fine tune performance gains. It gives you that much more pride and self confidence when you have worked out all the kinks to have a good reliable and respectively quick ride. People tend to be very impressed by this "underdog" of a diesel when it is properly modified.

Like mentioned before, the 6.5/6.2's are relatively cheap when compared to a ford or dodge because there are so many people afraid of them. All the more for the rest of us! So guys, keep up the good work, and watch for those bumper holes on the road. Its nice seeing these trucks kept alive and running how they should have from the factory ):h

I totally agree. With any of the newer trucks, you can plug and play. I like MAKING the power happen through hands on play.

Love watching for those bumper holes.

And the sound of a stacked 6.5, I'm addicted. The truck is 16 years old, got a little rust starting to happen, a few dents, a mismatched tailgate, etc. I still get people telling me that they really like the truck. A lot of people comment on the sound. My buddies mom really doesn't like any loud vehicles. Hauled five yards of topsoil with a trailer for them the other day. As I was backing it up, she commented that "Ben's truck sounds like a truck should." LOL. I'm getting a bit of a name for pushing all my local 6.5 friends to power up some. I plan to drive mine past a million. ):h

Not to mention I LOVE my 2 door. No other 2 door SUV ever came with a diesel to my knowledge. It turns heads when I pull into the campground with the 4 inch exhaust.

Now that is sweet. I have no use for a tahoe, but if i did, i would probably try to find a 6.5. Even with my 1500, i get comments from people all over the place. "is that a 1500 diesel???" most people think it is awesome here in the states. I know canada is a little different story, where they are more common.

I love watching for thoser bumper holes too, is amazing how few of them have them. Must be well under 10% if not under 5% where I am. It gets to the point where I see the same 3-4 around my area, yet I'm the only one on these forums.

As far as getting the 6.5 to a million... It's like AA. One day at a time!
