6.5 doing weird things at wide open throttle?

me and one of my buddies decided to go cruise one day and down a country road decided to floor it, when i let off the rpms stayed at around 2500 and kept on jumping up back and forth. and it was blowing black smoke. i pressed the pedal in and let out and it stopped. i am so confused what it was doing. i tried explaining the best i could. could anyone help?

+1..throttle hangs can give you a butt pucker......my 95 burb did it to me backin' out of a parking space....new IP and it never did it again...

once things start going bad i always look into upgrading. if theres any upgraded IPs out there. or can i just rebuild the IP?

Rebuild, purchase rebuilt, or source the new ULSD 031-5521S from the boys at Stanadyne. Diesel Store dot com has rebuilds for about $940.

I experienced a stuck throttle with my new IP and it didn't stop by lifting off and re-stabbing the throttle or hard braking either. Had to Key off and back on to maintain steering control. Fortunately there was space in the rush-hour traffic to have time to sort it out though the exhaust pipes ahead were getting close in a hurry.

Turned out the return line clamp cut the line (my fault). Mine was coding the day prior and hard starting so I knew something was up but the run away was unexpected. As for butt pucker...some stains Tide/Clorox or Downey just won't get out!

First thing you need to do is see if there are any trouble codes stored in the PCM....
