6.5 diesel motor problems

Hello i am new to the site and i jave a problem i have a 95 gmc Sierra 3500 mega cab long bed dually and i bought the truck and he said it was injectors that was wrong with it so went an bought injectors put them in and now i still have the same problem what happens is i will start the truck and i get alot of smoke just like before and i still have no power i put 4 different pmds on it and it has the same problem with all of them so i think its the injection pump but dont know how to test it and a new one is expensive if that aint the problem please help

Is it black smoke when you give lots of throttle? Sounds like it could be low boost. The vac pump or the solenoid or vac lines could be the problem.

if it's white smoke it could be air in the fuel

It starts as like a whiteish gray and goes black when i push on the throttle and it misfires

And after i changed the injectors the turbo was whistling really loud

Possibly a mixture of things.

Am with NVW. I'd make sure the vacuum system is healthy (wastegate working normally, etc) and there are no restrictions in the airway (clogged air filter, etc).

Poke around in the Technical Library (http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/forums/6-2-and-6-5-technical-reference-library.218/) a bit.

Is the lift pump working properly?

Health of the fuel filter?

What injectors were just installed? If not Bosch, plan on replacing them in the near future.

Put a piece of clear tubing on the return line coming out of the inj pump you'll need about a 6" piece of 1/4". Also try unplugging the coolant temp sensor in the crossover by the tstat. See if that makes any difference. If not the unplug the crank position sensor and start it. It will take quite bit of cranking to get it to start

Does the smoke clear up after the engine is warmed up? If so look at the glow plugs.

The misfire sounds like air in fuel, bad lift pump, kinked hose, plugged tank sock, plugged fuel filter, or other fuel starvation issue.

Drain some fuel from the water drain into a glass jar. Let it settle and look for water. Smell it: does it smell like gasoline?

Have you checked the codes? Use a paperclip to read the codes out of the ECM - if any.

We always take the air filter for granted - check it!
