I think I know the answer to this, but I want to be 100% sure before I buy some studs. The 6.2 and the 6.5 both use the same stud right? I found a site thats $30 cheaper on ARP studs than anywhere else I've found, but they list them for then 6.2 and not the 6.5.
Also I read somewhere that you shouldn't use gaskets on the exhaust manifold, anyone have any opinions on that? I'm planing on doing head gaskets on my truck and I'm just trying to do it right the first time so any input on the subject would be appreciated.

My 427 gas engine in my grain truck doesn't use exh. manifold gaskets.

"Also I read somewhere that you shouldn't use gaskets on the exhaust manifold, anyone have any opinions on that?"

Gaskets are not needed - save your money. These engines are dirty enough that soot will seal the manifolds. If it doesn't - replace the warped manifolds as they don't last forever. Generally you won't be able to get the bolts in if the manifold are warped to the done stage. I have used gaskets to obtain clearance for 6.5 injectors on a 6.2 head.

I've almost always used gaskets and never had a problem. Only 3 times I didn't use them and had to pull it apart and put one in after it leaked on that 3rd time. Never tried without since. My 2cents is the saved $10-$15 isn't worth the time and aggravation to me anymore.

If you're hurting for cash though that's a place to trade possible time for known $ to save. My years of the $ panic is over (I hope) but when I was a pup like some of you guys, I had my share of making gaskets from cereal boxes and turning 350s into 7 cylinders to have transportation. Even "rebuilt" a head gasket one time with coppercoat and carbon, lasted 6 months.

Gaskets on the exhaust manifold like to get red hot and blow out on a grade foot to the floor. My preference is to run without them for this reason.

I dont run them on one of my BBC engines. Running headers and black high temp RTV. I was going to do the same on the 6.5 you guys see any problems?

Alistair, can you tell us who has that price? PM me a link too if you would. Mine are $179 shipped. If someone is doing $156 I think it time to get out of the auto parts biz :mad2:. Are the Chinese counterfiting those now?

The one that leaked with me was slightly warped. If you run a straight edge on both surfaces and they are true, you really should be fine. I am just overly conservative. They were designed to be able to run without the gasket, just high heat sealant. Kinda like +10 head gaskets, not usually needed, just in case.

I got my studs from spartekmotorsports.com, the final price with shipping was 170. I really hope their not Chinese, that would be a shame.

I'm used to using gaskets, and I bought a felpro gasket set that comes with them, but I definitely don't want them to blow out. Just in case I don't have a good set of manifolds does anyone sell new ones?

WOW! insane. For anyone tring to make a living its tough. Thats below my cost at this point. ARP is one of the worst offenders in having any pricing policy. They are going to kill themselves as there is no value left in the product for the pepole that sell them.
The product is awesome, but just not worth selling anymore. Sad

Are small cracks around my precups an issue? I was just cleaning my heads a bit and noticed that there are tiny cracks on all of my precups, I took a picture of the worst one. Anyone know where I can get replacements?
