6.2 rebuild

Yeah man but rings are a LOT easier to fit in somenones luggage so... In the end sleeving comes out to about the same money as getting new pistons here. I'm just going to go with the sleeves option as it a lot easier and faster in my situation. Will update with progress. Thank you for the replys. Peace

I took it apart without measuring compression. Now I know better. Truck was burning through a quart of oil per tank. Smoking heavy thick blue smoke. Would only start with glows even hot. Overheating. Timing chain and gears worn out. Main bearings worn down to copper.

With the timing "gone" from a sloppy chain and gears the engine will smoke white just from unburnt diesel fuel. This unburnt diesel washed down the cylinders and eats the rings for lunch.

You will want to put new valve stem seals on the head as valve guides can also eat oil. Note when working hard the engine can use a quart every 500 miles. Anything put back together that uses a quart every 1000 miles or less is doing good. Have the heads done while they are off is a good idea if you can afford it. New self limiting glow plugs any way you can get them. New injectors or rebuilt with new nozzles as they are good for 100K only.
