6.2 flywheel help

Have you talked to centerforce about a clutch I have been so impressed with their clutch I have 3 vehicles with them

The centerforce disc is the same basic torque hub as all the others. I believe the parent co is a valleo (sp) It will work fine, I used to put a lot of miles on so it seemed like I was repairing a lot. It probably held for close to 100k

ok a bit of an update and more questions. I found somebody finally up here that carries them. they problem is they list a couple of different numbers. one is a cast # 14022675 or 1405025. what's the difference? anybody know what the ring gear tooth count is?

One thing I didn't mention before, there was a light duty flywheel that was used in front of the early light duty overdrive transmission. I honestly can't comment on this flywheel because I have never seen one, but I have heard that it is much lighter than the heavy duty version.

I just picked up a flywheel from a wrecker for my sm465 swap in the 87 and they had had one of the flywheels you were talking about. you are correct, it is lighter. i think it was about 3/4's of the thickness of a standard one.

it had the following number on it: 050525N

doesnt seem to match the numbers you listed though so i dont know if it helps you. it also had GM1 and another 5-6 digit number on it.

hmmm. that's odd. could it have been the 1405025N? worn number maybe?

I did managed to find a used one today, for $350:eek:. that price include a clutch with a whopping 15K on it though. it's still in good shape, be resurfaced once foresure though. now all I need the the throwout bearing and the pilot:thumbsup: easy parts to find. that I know forsure

nope the numbers were perfectly clear. i paid 75 cad for this one. needed to clean off some surface rust though- really minor though. looks good now.

still have to get a clutch and pedal setup though. pedals will be easy from the local pick and pull. just gonna go with a manual linkage setup. the pressure plate, clutch disc etc i can get for about 200 cad new but im trying to do this on the cheap so ill see if i can find something decent at the wrecker.

is the friction disc and pressure plate 6.2 specific or can i use a gasser v-8 setup?

the pedals don't matter but the clutch is diesel specific. go back a bit in the thread and you'll find all(well most) of the answer. can I ask why your going the mechanical route?

going mechanical cause that's the type of bellhousing that came with the sm465, parts are more plentiful and cheap at pick and pull, and its simple.

and i see where my question was answered. when i initially skimed over that i thought that it was talking about the flywheel.

the hardest part I'm having to track down is the boots for the floor pans. one other thing you may want to check. See if the holes for the the 'Z' bar are in to the frame. tis easier to have them but you don't want any surprises.

Flywheel Cast # 050525N - 6.2/6.5?

I have a flywheel with the casting # 050525N - GM1 and a big X cast in - am not sure what it fits. Anyone know? Cast date of C303.

I bought it at a swap meet and was told it was for a 454 BBC, intending to use it on a 75, 454 1/2 ton Chevy pickup conversion - but now learn it isn't correct.
Thanks, Ed

Just a tid bit

All 6.2 and 6.5 flex plates and flywheels will interchange.
The 6.5 innards are ballanced the same as a 6.2 and vice versa.

You can use a flex plate from a 6.2 on a 6.5 and so on.

The issue is that many 6.2's had the 700R4 tranny beind them and the 6.5 TD had the 400 or 4L80.

Using a 6.2 FLEX PLATE you can bolt up a 700R4 behind the 6.5.

The only flywheel that was no good was the dual mass units and thats not a biggy, just use a single mass one and your set.

IIRC the flywheels from the diesels will not fit the gassers ??????

I have swapped all sorts of stuff across the 6.2 and 6.5 and never had any issues.

A new pressure plate and clutch are going to be individually ballanced and will work fine with any flywheel you choose..

You should not have any issues with your swap.
