6.2 about to go to scrap!

Wish I'd seen this post before now.

Since the heads have been off for gaskets, and the bolts were not replaced. New head bolts have a special sealant on the threads and under the heads of the bolts to keep coolant out of the oil. The threads go into coolant on these engines.

I'd wager highly that the sealant used on the threads (or lack there of) leaked, and led to your coolant in the oil situation.

Pull the valve covers and look for fresh coolant pooling on top, usually shows up on the bottom head bolts just underneath the cover. Head studs are horrible about this, that's why I know about this problem so well.

If you find this is the case. I'd sue the mechanic that did the work to recoop your loss. The book says replace the head bolts for several reasons. 1) they're torque to yield, won't yield the same again. 2). the sealant.

If this is the case the shop is staffed by dunderheads. Move on. Maybe someone on here in you area can suggest a place. Or talk you through a DIY :)
