"599" Build

So I have been working on my 1985 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Short Bed conversion now for about 8 months. I finally decided to stay with the 6.5L motor and having the axles fitted with 4.56 gears. So unless a complete rebuildable "599" motor comes my way I found a "599" short block at one of the local machine shops.

599 can be 6.2 or 6.5 from GM. Good foundation. You know what to look for....

mm:skep: how can you find it's a 6.5 or a 6.2, so you know which parts to buy (rings, etc...)?

On the 4.56's I am going to run 37" tires. I should know more about the block on Friday.

After doing research for the better part of the year on engines, I have decided on the following...for now. I am sure the list will grow and get tweaked a little.

Scat crank
Mahle pistons
Head studs
Clearwater cylinder heads, maybe GEP (we'll see)
Duratherm glow plugs
Bosch hi output injectors
Turned up DB2-4911 injector pump
ATT turbo

I probably have the wrong IP for my application but I think everyone gets the idea.

4911 should be what came on stock 92-93 6.5TD's its a good IP to start with. Plenty of power can be gotten out of one.

.311 plungers. Biggest of the DB2's from GM. Other than that, call Stanadyne with a credit card.
