That's what I and my mechanic are wondering.

We are rebuilding a 506 in which we found a broken crankshaft.

We found the oil squirters so it's a 506, even though ther's no clear casting in the valley.

The 506 block being one with oil squirters, the 141 and 599 not, so we wonder if we can use the 141 crankshaft we have in the rebuild of the 506 block.

We think yes, but need to get sure. If there are any differences what are they? Main bearings?

Also, can someone decode these castings ?

Thanks ;)

AFAIK Al, the only different crank is somewhere in the 929? It went from a 2 piece seal to a one piece seal

I'm not 100% sure but I think the casting date is Dec 21 of 96 and it is a 506 block

929 is a 95 casting. AFAIK, all 6.5's use teh same crank, the 6.2's on the other hand were available with a 1 or 2 piece rear main seal(Somewhere in the late 80's GM went to all 1 piece rear main seals to help stop oil leaks).

OK, thanks Ferm. What were the 6.2 casting numbers? My 95 has a 141.

The last 6.2's were 599's, and the early ones were 660 i think, but I'm not real up to date on any 6.2 stuff.

Hey AK. Life's a bitch sometimes... but as long as you're healthy
Yes, it's been while, a "long while" I've been away, but I still have a 6.5l, and I still remember you all °°)

The 6.5 must be running well such that it kept you away.

Sounds like there's a story in that 6.2 repower. IIRC, when you were on here back in the day, you were involoved in a build on your 6.5.
