And begin with the mods...
It stayed stock for exactly 300 miles. I got a killer deal on this AFE intake and couldn't resist. Having run them before on my 04 Dmax, I know they have good fit and finish and good quality. I paid $380 for my AFE Stage II back in 2004 for my old truck. I got this one for less than $200, brand new.
I was originally going with an S&B intake since they do offer support for Chargers and Challengers but I didn't like how the end of the filter was closed off. It just looked cheezy to me. The AFE stuff has always been pretty high quality.
This was the easiest intake I've ever put on a car and took probably 7 minutes. Fit and finish were absolutely flawless. All the holes lined up absolutely perfectly. I had no issues at all.
Under throttle, this thing is SUBSTANTIALLY louder. It's deep, throaty and there's no question whether it's getting more air or not. I like it. It runs good.
I also had a bunch of programmers laying around so I called a friend at Hypertech and ended up with a nice tune for it for around $200. I just had to send in my core, which was an older programmer laying around as a paper weight. This motor is torquey right off the showroom floor so tuning it really didn't help the tires from chirping at every light. :hihi:
It feels nice now. Part throttle and bee boppin around town is when this thing feels the best. Passing power is incredible. 2nd gear is quite ridiculous when a light turns yellow and you either stab it or slam on your brakes. Overall, 1200 miles and I'm very happy with this car. I love this tune as well. Hypertech really did a fantastic job with tuning these things. For a canned tune, they never let me down. I'm currently running the 93 octane tune and I chose NOT to disable the active fuel management, which shuts down 4 out of the 8 cylinders. It doesn't bother me. It's quite smooth and not really noticeable. At 80 mph, it runs on 4 cylinders.
I really don't have many more plans for this car. Not looking to drop thousands on this thing. I think I've decided that HIDs are going in here pretty soon but that's pretty much it. I have no plans or desire to mess with the exhaust system. It's fine the way it is. I just wanna drive it and enjoy it.
Here's some pics.
