4L80E Troubles

Update; tranmisson arived at the shop yesterday.):h I will be installing it along with a few upgrades this weekend. I have three days to work with so I should have enough time to get it done. I plan on installing the B&M cooler along with the oil cooler under the truck behind the trans with a 10 inch electric fan controlled by a temp switch. I purchased one of those pans with the cooling tubes in it to see how well it works as well as a tube/cooler flushing kit for the factory lines. BTW any one know for sure which line is the output from the transmission? As I would like to "back flush" the lines. I also plan on undercoating the truck with a DIY roll on bed liner kit for rustproofing and sound deadening while the trans is out and access is easy. Also plan on adding a spin on filter for the trans that can be regulary changed easily. Reason for moving the oil and tranny cooler under the truck is to allow cooler air to get to the rad for better cooling. Man I miss driving my Blazer:sad:, but it will be back on the road again soon:thumbsup:. Also have nothing but good things to say so far about Everdrive.com and their service. they sent me like three different e-mails about the transmission as well as a couple of follow up phone calls.

Sounds like a good project.

So youre removing the oil cooler up front all together? I was planning to do that eventually. Right now I'm just running the 2 quart filter for extra filtering capacity though. You adding another remote filter too? or if your blazer is 2WD you could get the big 2 quart filter like mine. Wix/Amsoil has them or Kennedy diesel sells one too.

Sounds like you need to get yourself an "F" L65 EPROM for the PCM, works great, if you know what yours is for your S engine I can recommend an F code. I might have an extra you could try.

I'll be ading a remote spin on filter for the transmision this weekend but plan on adding a dual mount oil filter head at a later date. I already have the adapter for the block side so all I need to get is the dual filter head and find a good spot to mount it. I don't plan on increasing my horsepower until after I get back from Italy and rebuild the engine.

Anybody know which of the two ports for the transmission cooler is thepressure and which one is the return on the 4l80e? Need to know so I can install the extra cooler the way I want.

If you have the cooler out front it would be the line that runs to that. Trans-cooler-rad.-trans.

Ok Trans is in as well as the transfer case. Will be installing new U-joints on the rear shaft tomorrow and finishing up with the cooler install. I took advantage of the fact that I could get to the entire underside of the body and cleaned it up before I undecoated it with a duplicolor DIY bedliner kit for sound deadening and rust proofing. So far everything about the trans looks good. I flushed the old cooler lines and factory in rad cooler. Everdrive.com came through with some great customer service and price. All thats left right now is to fill it and the transfer with fluid and see if it all works ok.

Thanks Gunner and thanks for the all the help with the heavy lifting, wrench spinnning and the prep work on the undercoating. Nows lets see what we can do about your lift pump on your truck. BTW I will post some pics of the before and after of the underside of the Blazer as soon as I get a chance to take them. I cleaned up my FRB-5 install and under coated the Blazer which seems to have helped with some of the road noise. It took 14 quarts of fluid to fill the trans after the cooler install and flushing the old lines. I couldn't use the deep pan with the cooling tubes because it hit the filter. They must have sent me one for a later model or something because everything else about the pan was fine.

Update:
Did a 1400 mile road trip with the better half through the Great Smokies and Blue Ridge mountains without somuch as a hiccup from the tranny. Great customer service from everdrive.com and no troubles out of the tranny. I mounted the cooler basicly under the drivers side backseat behind the tranny and with my trans temp guage and scantech the tranny never even got close to 200 degrees even with out the ten inch fan hooked up (big thanks to turbine doc on that idea). I will see if I can get some pics of the setup tomorrow. I also plan on relocating the oil cooler to the same spot when I can get the hose made up for it.
I was unable to use the derale cooler pan because it hit the filter/pickup and wouldn't seat against the gasket. I will call the company I bought it from and see if there is a fix, might just have to use an early filter/pickup (hoping thats it). Hope to use it if for nothing else than the drain plug and extra fluid capacity.
