i have a 94 chevy with a 6.5 turbo and a 4L80e, the trans does not go in foward gears but has reverse, could this be the shift solenoids or is it something else, and second what other trans will fit the 6.5 turbo 2wd
Did this just happen all at once? Did you slowly lose the forward gears little by little? What does the fluid look like? Any preventative maintenance done to it in the past?
Welcome to The Truck Stop. Is it reading in the hash marks on the dipstick with the engine up to operating temperature? Does the fluid smell burnt? When is last time you changed tranny filter and fluid?
The 4l80e is a very solid tranny. Why are wanting to find something different? Known good tranny can be found a decent price usually. Rebuilding one is going to be cheaper than swapping to a different trans in the long run unless you already have an Allison or nv4500 laying around. An old school th400 will hold up but you loose 4th gear. Ok for off road or such but not daily driving. 4l85e is option also. All of the swap outs require electrical/electronics mods.
Ri chevy no it just stopped one day and it has new trans fluid and filter and still does nothing, Will L. the trans fluid was changed every 3 months since i tow goosenecks all the time, and i was just woundering what all i could bolt up to the 6.5 block, GM Guy ty i was just looking in to buying a rebuild kit
NVW i have checked all connector and changed shift 1-2 solenoid cause it was the code it had but now there is no codes so i am leaning to a total rebuild
A shift solenoid will not cause reverse but no forward. If the solenoids failed it would resort to 2nd gear limp mode and leave you with 2nd and reverse. I did some looking in my manual and online, and in heavy towing applications the forward clutches or forward clutch drum are known to fail leaving you with no forward but reverse is fine. Have you tried unplugging the case connector and putting it into limp mode yet? If not do it and see if you get 2nd gear(don't be alarmed when it bangs into gear, with it in limp mode like this it will shift VERY hard into gear). If you still have reverse but no forward, then you have no choice but to pull the trans out and go into it. If you get 2nd gear and reverse with it unplugged, then chances are something broke in the 1st gear portion of the trans in which case the trans still needs to come out.
If it were mine, I would be looking for a late 99+ 4L80E or 4L85E trans to go back in it. Swap over your 94's shift shaft(95+ used a cable, whereas 91-94 was mechanical linkage), get the adapter lines & fittings to hook up the cooler lines, and your set to go with the upgraded version.
first i want to say ty to everyone that has commented on thing that might be wrong with my trans but after pulling it out and pulled bands out i found one completely shattered into about 15 piece's so i am looking for a trans now, so ty for your guys help
