Thank you for the pictures, they are extremely helpful. The conn. at the arrow should lead to the rear VSS, on the x-fer case.
It is a "union" to the rear VSS conn.
The speed sensor bracket is normally part of the speed sensor.
Anyway, this is how they are bolted on.
If you have a 99 then the ISS speed sensor at the front of the trans will have DK BLU/WHT & RED/BLK wires.
The VSS on the x-fer case will have LT GRN/BLK & PPL/WHT wires.
The rear speed sensor on the trans is not used.
I have seen these conns. get mixed up.
Push button.Do you have the push button 4wd or floor shift?
There is I got the plug back to its proper place. I was wondering about this as the rear sensor was filthy inside. A filthy female socket. There should be a short harness from the VSS to the now empty union conn.
The case has a blank plug in it where the rear sensor on a 2wd would go. It probably doesn’t have the reluctor for the sensor to rear.I went and check the ‘99 4L80e transmission I have stored in the basement and it is not even tapped for the rear sensor:
