On a TBI 350? Never had one cause rough idle, just low power. I really think that would have been changed. The guy is half owner in the local parts store. I'd change the fuel filter for giggles but I'm still thinking it ran like the 95 TBI 305 I had in highschool that kept jumping timing.

Paid the guy with a check (local guy) and got and mile out of town when it started bucking and sputtering trying to accelerate from 50mph in 4th. After that it coughed and sputtered like a 6.5 with dying pmd all the way back to town.
This is what I went by, no mention of idle

A great way to learn about the cracked plastic/ spark travel is grab a hold of the top of the distributor. Just remembering that makes my hand and elbow hurt again. "Hey Will, feel the crazy vibration on the distributor- I think thats why it's running funny." No, I didnt catch him, but I sure chased him a ways.

Throw a timing light on it. Compare spark rate between all cylinders. Have you pulled the plugs to see how they are all burning? My favorite chart from hose days:

That's what mine did. It also wore off the gear on the cam by 200k miles
The distributor gear problem was moreso on the vortec or roller motors. GM used mellonized gears for there roller cams, and were notorioys for either using the non mellonized gear or having poor mellonize coating on them. Once the surface coating wore off, the gears rapidly chewed up. The flat tappet engines didn't have many gear problems.

I had to get a new cam at 250k miles (while it was out I "upgraded") and rebuilt the top end. Honestly wasn't up set that's pretty good life. Knowing what I know now I would have kept the OEM cam specs since they seemed to have the best/adequate bottom end performance.
