4 bolt fan clutch solutions with a 195 degree t-stat

Late to the party, I run the KD clutch 195 stats and steel fan and love it it behaves exactly how I would expect it too kicking in before things start getting too hot and yes it does kick out.

Cheers
Nobby

After this thread was bumped, I figure I would update.

Before condemning the clutch, I need to mount a mechanical temp guage, as according to the dash guage, I am getting up to 215 and the Kennedy clutch is not engaging.

I thought someone said there was a bad batch of clutches, but Kennedy was being good about warranty, but I cannot recall where I read that info.

Radiator and condenser are cleaned (radiator physically pulled and worked over on sawhorses) and there is a bumper air dam, so i should be getting great flow through stack.

Yes, The Hayden is ok. But it's just not as good as the KD clutch specific to the peak ECT spike before it turns on. Modding the damn spring is not easy and risks the clutch not shutting off. It's a narrow window controlling the valve via a spring. For $175 the Sale Price of the KD clutch - just spend the $75.00 extra and be done with it. Sure others have modded their clutch to temps unknown - I have failed on gas engine clutches and instead wound up raising the idle for AC in the ECM.
Just an FYI, KD's fan clutch IS a HAYDEN unit now. It's still a custom calibration, but is manufactured by HAYDEN. I did a write up in the DURAMAX section showing side x side pics of the 2 for an 01-05 DMAX, and there is NO denying they are BOTH HAYDEN's, and I've also seen your posts talking of your replacement KD clutch being different than your old one.

Will- it was a cost thing. For 270 bucks im up and running. I would be a grand plus with a kennedy clutch and spin on pump. My pump is nearly new. When it dies I will upgrade to balanced flow for sure. Im hearing the second clutch issue advice. My other mods are - duramax fsn with cut down tips and slightly deeper fsb shroud. I may have a strange dead air pocket

Continued-
Pocket or a weird eddy of air hitting the clutch. I have the clutch runnung fulltime again. It cools fantastic. Noisy but I never have to check my temps nervously every 30 seconds. Im getting 15mpg with the clutch bypassed doing mixed highway/town driving. Im wsiting on the Leroy Electric Clutch.....

GM OE grade 88894035 pump is 216 at rock auto, Duramax fan is 50 (without shipping, but also without the 5 percent discount code you can get here), and KD fan is 175,

If one shops around and pieces it out, it gets way cheaper to upgrade.

Mmm. I see. I do have the Canada thing. Every vendor uses UPS which costs 45 bucks a shot plus 60 bucks brokerage plus tax and then the glory of adding the exchange rate. Multiply the whole lot by 1.30.......but we do have good healthcare. I need to check Rockauto. The may have Canadian distribution set up without UPS.

@Sand check you inbox, and does the shipping charges work like a tax that gets applied directly to the healthcare funds? Why do they add these fees to the citizens?

No. Tax is tax. For the sake of revenue.
Healthcare is billed monthly to all citizens. Cheap though. Its on a scale based on income. Low income gets it for no charge. Higher income pays more. Something like a hundred and thirty bucks a month for a middle income family of 2. Good value for a high standard of healthcare.
Got you message. Super tip. Im formulating a plan to head to the border and do a parts pickup from a depot there. I'll save loads.

Just ordered a Kennedy Fan. 175. Its marked down from 195. Good deal. Balanced flow waterpump is on its way too. Thanks guys for the tips.

Order has arrived! Nice pmd wire loom from leroy. Quality looking conductors and plugs. Also got my Kennedy clutch and spin on balanced flow waterpump. It will be a winter project this looks like. My free pen from kennedy diesel got crushed in the delivery but I'll live....
Anyone have a pic or service manual drawing of how Ill have to modify my lower rad pipe to use the new pump? I have severely hijacked this thread. Tell me to start a new one if I should.
Sandy

Cool. It is a hummer. I dont know why i had thought i needed to flow from one of the pump outlets into the lower hose off the rad.
Just a quick question - does it matter which way the fuel gauge isolator faces? Im thinking stainless fitting toward fuel.
