2500 disc conversion

Thanks for the links I've been out of the truck world for about 15 years nice to see that someone finally has stuff for the 2500s. Blackbirds definately have some cool stuff and reasonable prices.

Once you subtract the cost of new drums & shoes, it becomes almost a no-brainer. Its a little more for the dually, and a little more for the Parking Brake calipers (necessary, IMO). But still worth it. Plus you shed unsprung & rotating mass weight. = better ride, more HP at the wheels.

I bought a rear axle out of a newer truck, 04 HD 2500 gas truck, for disc brake setup. Spring pad width is different but an easy way to get disc brakes with a parking brake. Cost me about $600, 500 for the axle and almost 100 for the new spring perch and u bolts.

How did it work out and how is that ATT running? Ever figure out your fuel problem?

Have not solved the fuel issue yet. But I will say the ATT is a perfect match for the 6.5. Highway passing is so much better now and the sound at full throttle with my strait pipe is awesome.
The rear axle is sitting in my garage waiting it's turn. I had some major issues with my work van that basicaly made my blood boil. Now that that is working agian I will start back up on the 6.5 again.

Please keep us posted when you've swapped in the OEM axle with rear discs setup.

The aftermarket brackets that utilize the earlier GM 3/4T rotors/calipers look reasonable except no parking brake. Another option out there uses older Cadillac El Dorado calipers that included an OEM parking brake setup. I've heard rather mixed reviews on how that parking brake works.

Swapping to rear discs interests me but I'll want a reliable/trustable parking brake setup (my truck's a 5 spd). One would hope GM engineered an effective parking brake setup for rear disc brakes by 2004.

Regardless of my wish that the OEM 14 bolt/10.5 rear disc brake setups from 3/4T gassers includes an effective parking brake; I'd much rather hear from an owner using such a setup.

I use to drive a Ford superduty and I believe that had a driveshaft e-brake. I wonder how if someone sells one or how hard to add one something like that would be.

Probably not necessary.
