Perhaps its a cold weather precaution. A frigid cold plastic tank wouldn't take an impact too well. Or in case of an accident. My racor has a clear fuel bowl at the bottom which is nice as I can see crud and condition of fuel, gelled, liquid, cruddy, clear, etc. I really like that racor unit... Recommend one to all. best 45bux ever spent.
