where could I look or try to find out:
1) How many of these rare 2 door breed were actually made and
2) How many known to still be alive ?
People are always surprised to see a 2 door with a diesel and I throw guess out when I say probably less than 500 still left but in reality I have no idea.

He's full of Sh%t on the MPG. No way in hell it gets that. Mine is in perfect tune with all the same mods and I get 17-18 on the highway 15 mixed and I baby it. I was offered that much for mine and decided to keep it. His is nicer. what really surprises me is he says he has Pinnacle exuast. when I called them they said they did'nt carry it for 2 doors.

At first glance I was going to say Peninsualr but looking closer I think it's a homemade upper. Probably to eliminate the EGR. Your not off topic....
Your a hijacker.....:)

And when they ask me if "that thing's a diesel?", I usually reply, "No, it's just got a bad rod knock..."

Depending on the look on their face, I either fess up or walk away... ):h

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I'd bet there are a boatload more than 500 out there. But even 100X that spread out over North America wouldn't be a very high "density."

What the heck years were these things available?

I don't think 22mpg is that unreasonable. I'm half a hair under 20 in my truck driving mainly back country roads (windy and hilly), should be at least 1mpg better on extended highway. My truck is way the hell heavier then a 2 door tahoe.

I'm basing this on what I have seen but I think 93-98 under variuos names(Yukon, Blazer,Tahoe)

I have personally never heard of a mechanically pumped Tahoe, so I doubt there are any '93s out there, but it will be interesting to see if GM responds to your query...

Mines a 94 and I get the same questions at the pump all the time. The most consistant comment is "I bet that wasn't easy to find!" I love mine and have no intention of getting rid of it. I get 16 around town and I will know shortly what it will get on extended highway running without a trailer.

mine's a 95 2 door, people always ask "is that a diesel???"

that fuel economy is not unreachable. i get 20-21mpg around town in 35-45mph zones and 21-24 highway at 70mph. 4L80E, 3.42 axle gears, 265x75x16 tires and a cold air intake. i'm at sea level altitude though

You pinged on the mpg, what about the HP & Torque numbers seems way high for mos he has, and I'm not sure who it is but I've seen that intake set up over on Place when I used to hang out there, either it was a member there that built it or this guy copied it and a 95 with 212K price is too high, my 98 burb was only $6500 with only 130K on it

Actually gotta disagree withyou on that one TD. I was offered 8k for mine with 167k on it and that one is way nicer interior wise. Mine has rubber mats no power accs etc. Two doors are rare and pull a good price. I almost sold mine but what can you buy to replace it ? There is no other passenger class SUV that can tow what mine can, is diesel, and fits in a small garage. I love my two door.
The suburbans with 6.5s won't fit in a small garage and the Jeep CRD can't tow what mine can I don't think anyway. Let's put it this way I wouldn't hang an 8 foot Fisher off a CRD but I can hang one off my Tahoe. Might have to crank the t bars up a little.

agreed, the Tahoes with the 6.5 are from the era where SUVs were based on real truck frames... imagine that? I did see a CRD in a liberty doing a pretty impressive pull, though it was heavy enough to blow black for a few seconds pulling away from stops, and those engines are NOT supposed to blow black EVER i dont think. Funny, that's what really clued me in that it was a diesel, though I figured from the size of the load
