hmmm...wonder if there is a way to shield the alternator...or maybe just keep a spare in a lead box with a handful of silica packets?

Don't the gauge clusters have something to do with the charging system in those trucks, or is that first gen CTDs? I thought there was some alternator/charging system voodoo BS that went through the cluster, which can short out.
The problem there isn't the gauge cluster, it's the crank position sensor.
When the crank position sensor fails, obviously the tach quits working. When the tach quits working the alternator doesn't get any reference for charging and that's what kills the charging system.
It's not really the cluster, that's just one thing that is noticed with the failure.

but silly question...
but if you went with a 12v and 47RH would this actually protect you in the event of an EMP...just thinking in case their is tough times ahead...
Also in the event of a biological attack does putting your ac on recirculate protect you more than just closing the windows???
