1994 6.5t smoking black real bad

Just to be clear the truck will run with the pump timing marks aligned as long as the ITS motor is removed, for some reason it is maxed out in the retarded direction and all it will do is smoke no start with it connected I wonder if there is a way to move it the other way with a jumper wire? I am of the opinion that the timing chain and gears are correctly timed because if I run the advace lever with my finger I can make it go from overly advanced to retarded and dies within it travel.

For the gmtdscantech software to work all you need is a laptop and the connecting cable. When you pay for it you can download the program but you will have to wait for the cable.Much easier to use than a tech1. I have a tech1 that I got off of craigslist for $200. You need to have the mass storage cartridge to work on a 6.5. [mine does] I bought it mostly for my older cars. I use the gmtdscantech on the trucks. Much better. Full screen with 6 functions on screen at once. Ability to do snapshots also. Throttle control, transmission control, cylinder balance, time set and tdco learn and much more. A true bargain for the money.

heres a pic of the scanner readout any tips? When I manually move the advance to try and reach the desired 5.5 the engine gets to retarded and dies, I think if I rotate the pump and depress the lever I could maybe make it reach desired amount but the marks will be off by quarter inch!

Are you trying to get the offset to match the 5.5 des? That isn't what you want to do. Offset is usually set from -.35 to -1.94 The - is actually a timing advance.

One more thing, thing, the Snap On scanner will give a different Offset reading than a Tech 1 or Tech 11 or GMTDScanTech.

I am not sure what the snap on parameters mean. The Inj Timing I do not think is Measured Injection Timing, when associating it to Des Inj tim. I believe that to be actual pump timing, like Crank timing, but it only goes as low as the TDCO is set, so you want it to be around 28 when TDCO is set correctly.

Is there another screen or more that shows something called Meas Inj Tim?

A 5.5 desired timing sounds wrong too, like someone put in the wrong PCM EPROM, or it is custom. Pull PCM out and check the EPROM inside it, there is a flap on the back. They may have put a N/A PCM EPROM in it.

That or scanner doesnt display stuff correctly.

Shoot a PM to Turbine Doc. He has a MT2500, and can tell you what your display values should be. You will need to have the stepper motor hooked up to make changes through the PCM.
