Greetings again.
As I posted recently, my 93 4l80 is having problems.
I have a chance to purchase a 2000 4l80 that was recently rebuilt for $400.
I read here by Thefermanator that the 91-93 has a cleaning cycle for the pressure solenoid. The 2000 won't have that. What will I have to do to use the 2000 model in my truck using the 93 computer ??
Thank You in advance.

Exactly as Ak said. there is way too much that would have to be done. your best bet is if you plan to use the factory 93 trans computer is to rebuild YOUR trans. no exchanges as it willl be a huge gamble if you get the right parts in an exchange, like the reluctor in it which is now unobtainium at this point.

The only way to use the 2000 year model trans is with an aftermarket computer like the EZ-TCI and you still will need to swap out some things or create your own custom shift linkage / cable system. your 93 uses a steel rod and linkage to the shift shaft on the trans. the newer ones used a cable and are uniquely different. that is unless you plan to install a aftermarket floor shifter and do away with the column lever.

The cost on making the newer one work would be more than the cost of getting your trans rebuilt including all getting all the upgrades during the rebuild process.

Looking at both 4l80's, 1993 & 2000, both have the exact shaft and bracket....
Also, can I just change the computer to a 94/2000 model ?

Nope. They would have helped people out if they changed the name of them each series change. Because CAN a person make it work? Sure . You can also make a 1945 ford 3 speed work. They are not identical just because the name is 4l80e.

If you are going to swap- it HAS TO BE because you are running mass power/ towing/ or some other reason you need to get the newer units improvements that happen over time. And newer isn’t always better because some attempts at improvements failed. When you make the jump, sometimes the best answer is to buy a stand alone controller for it.

Tons of people make the huge error getting a different one because it works and is “cheaper” but by the time they make all the alterations needed to make it operate properly they are into it $3,000 more than they planned. Do mnot do it because you think it will save money- it will not.

as @THEFERMANATOR has posted here in several threads in the past. there are several hard parts in the 93 style 4L80E that are no longer available other than finding a unmolested trans of that year. to make the newer one work with the OEM computer you'd be swapping out parts in your 93 trans that could be introducing problems into the "working" newer trans like the valve body and whatnot.

my 93 had the trans rebuilt by the previous owner which after the rebuild it would not work with the factory computer. it now has a EZ-TCI computer to make it work, which it shifts fine although with this controller it does not allow TCC lockup in 3rd. the previous owner also had to have the rebuilt trans gone back into and parts from his old trans swapped into the one it has now to make it work and be complete for the 93 truck.

I have always questioned that if down the road this 93 ever becomes a parts truck, would this trans still work in my 95 or would it work with the OEM 93 computer. that I have no idea. I would have to just try and find out, which would be a lot of work only to find out I wasted a lot of time and work finding out.

I could try the OEM 93 computer that still resides in the truck without too much effort but I don't think it would be worth finding out.

for your truck it would involve much more effort and cost. these aftermarket controllers are upwards around $1000 new and only control the trans, nothing on the engine. if your engine is a 454 gasser with TBI then you still need something to control it too. Diesel not so much as it on a 93 should be all mechanical and will run without any electronics.

Moral of the story is, it's all about your budget and how much you want to spend. also how "original" you want to keep it.
