i just acquired a 1985 c10 with a 6.2 it has not run in several years and help or advise on where to start would be appreciated.
 
Exhaust temp (max im guessing)is stated in the specs as just over 1200 deg. Interesting.

You should start a new thread about your rig where everyone will see and respond. But start with new oil and ALL NEW fuel and filters. Replace 1/4" fuel return line out front of Ip with clear tubing to watch for bubbles indicating air intrusion into fuel lines. Remove all glowplugs add a few drops of oil into each cylinder. Turn engine over by hand, then with starter while all the plugs are out. After cranking for 30 seconds you should be getting a mist of fuel out the glowplug holes. Install new ACDelco 60G plugs and try starting.

EGT is nothing more than heartburn. If you have a turbo it tells you where the turbine melts, maybe. I have run a 1985 6.2 with a DS4 and ATT turbo to 1550 degrees steady pulling a grade. As long as the ECT is under control and timing isn't advanced EGT can be ignored. On this engine anyway. NA engines run higher that that 1200 EGT anyway : stock.
