1500 vs 2500 suburban?

Umm did you read my post fully? I have a Trim Badged 2500 Suburban with the SF. This phenomenon of incorrect trim badge on the burbs has been noted in the past in other threads/forums. Unless this part of the discussion is semantics in that you are using the term 2500 figuratively to refer to a true 3/4 vehicle, whereas I am using the term literally as in the actual badge on the trim of the truck. Which is why I made the prior comment based on my own vehicle to ignore what the badge says and get under the truck. But you are correct in suggesting checking the door sticker in that my burb with the 2500 badge indeed GVWR's at 8050 and VINs out as a 1/2 ton. The rear spring pack is a different part number to the 3/4 ton and I checked with the local GM parts guy and indeed as we are discussing for the 1500 burbs is a heavy half ton spring pack.

Of course this then leads to two possibilities either GM had bad/funky days and the wrong badge was stuck on the side of the truck or a PO for whatever reason decided to change the badges. I have heard it was the former either way like I said get under the truck as well check the VIN/RPO codes and of course as you said check the GVWR sticker.

Cheers
Nobby

Yes I read your post. I stated that your comment about a 2500 diesel BURB with a 9.5" and 3.42's is incorrect as that is a 1500 diesel BURB. It is VERY common for people to swap out the door badges for 2500's because they get tired of people making comments about them having an 8 lug 1500. I have an uncle who has a gas 2500 truck that is 6 lug, and he swapped it out for 1500 badges because he got tired of peopel saying things about the 6 lug wheels and 2500 badges. Your BURB with a 8050 GVWR, 3.42 gears, and a 9.5" semi floating rear end is a 1500 diesel BURB, NOT a 2500 BURB. I seen K2500 in your sig, so I was pointing out that if this is the BURB you are refferring to, it is in fact a K1500 BURB. I should have clarified this better in my earlier post. You need to check the RPO list, if it doesn't have C6P it isn't a 2500 BURB. Then again it is confusing as the 1500 is for all intensive purposes a 2500 chassis but badged as a 1500 when it came out new, even though many change teh door badges as I'm sure many BURBS don't have DURAMAX/ALLISON badges on the door either like mine does. Don't go by what the badges are on the door unless you are the origanal owner and bought it and they were on it new, and even then it is a crap shoot as many dealerships changed teh door badges or added Z71 stickers and charged more money for them that way.

My understanding is a 1500 burb is available with 3:42 OR 3:73 gears,, and the 2500 Burb only got the 3:73 or 4:10's Have to see the build sheet in the glove box to check RPO codes to see what gear it has. I want a 3:42 Burb, as I don't tow no more then 5000Lbs maybe 2-3 times a year. I want to see 22MPG load up with the family for the trips up north!

Every 1500 8 lug 6.5L BURB I've seen or read about all had the 3.42 gears in it(GU6 RPO), it was one of there selling points. As for 22MPG out of a 6.5, that may be tough to get unless you slow it down. I know I can bump 22 running 70 on interstate, but that is with a tuned DMAX(stock tuning would only get 20 which was the same as it did with 3.73's in the donor truck). Tuning I think plays the biggest role in milage of any diesel. I used to get 15 out of mine with 4.10's at 70, but the updated PROM from GM got it up to 18 at teh same speeds.

I have the original sales literature for 1995 Subs and it list only 3.42 for 1500 6.5 Subs. 2500 could be 3.73 or 4.10.

Well I'm told I drive like an old man,,, Just turned 45 on the 13th. I almost NEVER see 3000,, and I try to keep it shifting under 2000, as much as possible. I know that light foot is what it takes for fuel mileage, and 22 is wishing,, but hell If I cant wish, then what's the point. SO I wish I had your duraburb! there I said it.

1500 suburbans with a gasser could come with 3.73s from the factory if they had the towing package. Have had both an 89 and a 94 like that.

Yep, and I believe there was even a few rumored to have the 9.5" 14 bolt semi floater in a 1500 with 3.73 gears(never seen one, but heard it was an option at one point). Then in 2000 with the new body style GM went to 4.10 gears for the 5.3L, then in 01 went back to a 3.42 gear ratio for gasser 1500's. 2500's from 00+ could be 3.42-4.10's.
