Update and question.
The turbo is in, she makes smoke now. Drove the twenty miles to the exhaust shop and twenty miles back, exhaust is done enough for my move (will need to modify the crossover tube later to allow fitment of the front driveline). I’ve been chewing on a couple things though...
That’s sounds great. I’ll see what I can come up with. I would love to have a force on feature for the fan. And I have no problem with running a non AC rig in AK
The tube from my 89 will definitely bolt on just fine, IF I don’t do the serpentine upgrade. I really want the bigger fan, bigger water pump, and AC brackets that I can get if I use the serp belt setup from the 94
I was told the donor was from a ‘94. And it definitely faced rearward, my ‘89 faced forwards. The difference is AC placement and also the ‘94 didn’t have mechanical linkage to navigate around. I’ll probably have to do as @MrMarty51 suggests and fab my own. Just putting feelers out to see if...
So, besides the air filter setup, I’m puzzling through another problem. If you guys know of a thread where this was addressed. That would be cool. Didn’t find anything right off, but I’ll keep looking. I decided to try and make the serpentine belt setup fit on my truck. The t-stat housing needs...
Do you guys have any recommendations on after market air filters? I’m thinking this can clamp right on the turbo intake.
K&N Universal Clamp-On Air Intake Filter: High Performance, Premium, Washable, Replacement Filter: Flange Diameter: 3 In, Filter Height: 8 In, Flange Length: 1.75 In, Shape...
I finally got the time today to do the compression test on the engine in my truck. Every hole was within 4-5 lbs of 350psi. And oil pressure was just over 40 at cranking speed with cold oil. So I can be pretty confident in saying that I think my current engine is in good shape to swap parts over...
Guys, little update. I got looking at the donor engine, and it has several of the upgrades y’all have mentioned that I should do. It has the red turbo controller from Leroy’s, the fluid dampener from Leroy’s, and I think it has the hummer fan/clutch. I definitely need to dig in and see what else...
Thank you for all the info sir. I like the idea of just putting the turbo on there and call it a day.
Do you have a link for that hummer fan clutch, I like the sound of that. I don’t like how high the temp gets before the fan engages.
Also, thank you for the link to the turbo master.
Lived there for many years. Moved back to family in AZ two years ago. Now the wife and I have had enough and we’re headed home next spring. In fact the reason for the turbo is to make the hills better in BC, almost stroked out moving south. Lol
Ah, that’s interesting, I haven’t heard anyone mention a difference in the pistons yet. I’ll have to look into that. Thank you.
I’m not sure exactly what I’m doing yet, I like the old engine because it’s shown me to be reliable and I don’t know the history of the new one.
One thought I had...
Thank you. I don’t have A/C. But I’m planning to add an aftermarket. If I don’t have time for that then the serpentine will just have to run a dummy pulley in that spot.
Also I meant to say injection pump, can I run my mechanical injection pump with the turbo without changing injectors?
So...
Hi folks, I’m looking for a few good gurus to help me with my project. I have an ‘89 GM diesel crew cab. She spent many years as a fleet vehicle for a pipeline service company, then went through half a dozen private owners before I rescued her.
I was told she had an 6.2L originally, and that...
