    Pyrometer probe installation "screw-up"

Really? I usually get tons of warnings about chipping, saying that the advanced timing increases heat and that it "WILL lead to engine failure, but by all means have fun while it lasts.." Those who claim to know about the 6.5td usually builds their engines with better exhaust (including...

    Pyrometer probe installation "screw-up"

I was thinking just that, or more correctly drill a new hole in the manifold on the drivers side since the wiring was to short to reach my pillar gauge pod, and the wires apparently is not supposed to be lengthened :rolleyes5: Well, I blame my own ignorance about pyros and the crappy...

    Pyrometer probe installation "screw-up"

The instructions doesn't say anything, but I would guess it is calibrated to the original fitting.. I would say that it has been pulled about 1 cm. I have been trying to find an adapter with a 1/4" MPT and with 1/8" compression fitting (not sure what the threads are called) but that...

    Pyrometer probe installation "screw-up"

I installed the probe for a bully dog pyrometer today, but messed it up a bit :rolleyes5: I did not have the proper drill size for the 1/8" NPT tap, and the tap itself was from a cheap set and was apparantly made out of butter or something. In short: I ended up with a hole that was to big and...

    What regulates rear brakes?

That's interresting, however I've got plenty of braking power on rear brakes while this was caused by overworking the fronts. I'll try to swap the front calipers first, then we'll see what happens.

to chip or not to chip?

The downpipe is 3" and mandrel bent, crossover pipe is also mandrel bent so I reckon that has been swapped as well. Just ordered myself a bully dog pyrometer, so I reckon I'm ready for a chip :D

    What regulates rear brakes?

I reckon my best bet is to replace both. Anything to I should look for, or can I just go for the best deal? This is a non-hauling (max 4000 pounds for a couple of miles once or twice a year), family-of-five carrier.. Remanufactured ACdelco with semi-metallic pads seems to be an ok deal on...

    What regulates rear brakes?

    How do I know what caliper to order? I'm looking at a couple of bendix calipers R55497 and R55501 passenger/light truck - 1995 - Chevrolet/GMC truck - Suburban - V8-6.5L diesel turbo (S) Door sticker says 7900 pounds, Vin says G = 8001-9000 I got SF rear, that's the 11" drum I reckon? The...

    What regulates rear brakes?

This was my initial suspicion. The brake effect vary a bit: sometimes I feel i need to press harder. Also, the drag is not consistent: sometimes it brakes fine. And the vibrations is also not consistent, it also comes and goes and varies in intensity. Which leads me to think that the vibration...

    What regulates rear brakes?

Don't think I have overtightened the rear: I lifted the wheels off the ground, tightened until I felt a drag and backed off probably one complete turn. Anyhow, there should be something to relieve brake pressure if the rear are locking up? I'm also having a drag to the right...

    What regulates rear brakes?

Ok, I'm starting to get to know the burb a bit better and it's time to sort out the bugs on it.. Rear brakes lock up and squeal on tarmac when the burb is empty, and I suspect it's what causes vibrations when braking with load in it: it's lifted (for now, will remove it at soon as I get new...

to chip or not to chip?

Shipping is no problem, I usually have it sent to an adress in the US, to a freight company which airfreight it to Norway and drop in the post for the last leg. Usually much cheaper than direct shipping. Marine injectors I reckon also need a different IP to supply more diesel, in order to get...

to chip or not to chip?

Thanks! I reckon most that have had problem with a chip have installed in a stock truck and then just had fun while it lasted.. I always try to take care of my trucks, keeping an eye on the important parameters while driving, so I reckon I will manage to stay out of trouble. Maybe Engh will...

to chip or not to chip?

Hi, new to the forum and new to 6.5td. Recently bought a 95 k1500 suburban as a family hauler (boy, do I love the space :smile5:). And I'm trying to decide to chip it or not. These engines have a fairly poor reputation here in Norway, but when you look closer it's mainly related to PMD failures...
