Last summer I purchased a 1996 Jeep XJ Cherokee sport. It has big miles and is tired, but there is no rust. I found it on Craigslist in CO for the right price.
Anyhow, Now I've been thinking of a diesel conversion. I happen to already own a brand new 6.5. It's on an engine stand in my shop...
We all have had some bad luck with substandard parts and/or hired labor. Some of us more than others. That’s why we (I) try to do as much as we (I) can ourselves, including R&D at great cost in time, money and frustration.
Some of us like to give the supplier of substandard products and...
Just got word from the shop, the flex conduit that will fit over the existing heat barrier on the shift cable won't fit where the cable has to run. So, coffee cans here I come.
The headers are back on. Now we are trying to figure out how to shield the shift cable from the exhaust. The cable runs between the down pipe and the manifold that runs to the turbo collector. We were thinking to run the cable inside of metal flexible conduit, then wrap that.
Well, there's not much I can do, except put it together with the parts I have. Other than redesigning the whole exhaust system and start over. I don't think there is enough money in my pension to do that.
I'm hoping the new gaskets will make things better, as their claim says.
I remember when...
On Tuesday of this week I received the "repaired" headers. No new flanges, just cleaned up a little, the bolt holes enlarged, the corners ground off and the welds that my machinist milled off repaired. I took them to the rv shop with the Remflex gaskets to be installed. Neither the rv tech or...
Well, here's what I got from Peninsular today.
I'm not sure if I understand what they are going to do.
"Jody, we believe we have found the problem. Over the years the cylinder heads have been produce by different foundries and each time there are slight changes in casting and machining. Why I...
It's not all the motorhome or the 6.5 fault, most of my troubles boil down to poor workmanship and the rest are just bad luck. Yes, when I get it back home I will fabricate heat shields and use exhaust wrap where I can.
This popped up on my fb from a year ago today. This was in Pittsburg, PA.
Well, it's a waiting game now. I'm waiting the hear from Peninsular on my header repair and I'm waiting to hear from 3 different sources about 10mm-1.5mm pitch X 30mm length locking header bolts.
I don't think the wire ties will be an option.
