Mike is right, eat your wheaties before attempting to take that apart. The caliper brackets are a right pain in the ass to break loose if you don't have a big cheater pipe.

The hydroboost in my 06 Dmax started leaking and dripping PS fluid out the hole where the MC bolted to it also... I went with the AC Delco reman unit and had no problems at all. It was well over $300 then IIRC. Flushed the PS fluid with TranSynd at the same time.

Mine did that slamming into 1st occasionally. Slow to stop then *BANG* it hits 1st and feels like you got rear-ended.
Almost sounds like you've got the old dry slip yoke though since it's already in 1st.
