    Failed torque converter?

Snoop around and get a converter that has the HD Kevlar clutch setup. There is no reason that the TCC can't hold up under full throttle at speed. Where things go wrong is when folks try and run the lockup in second gear and pull hard. Missy

    Resurecting New Engine

You definately need the wooden prop under the front of one of these engines when they are fully dressed. I have a 4 wheel engine stand too and a 6.5 will make that thing flex and make me very nervous. Once I get the engine right side up and the heads on and stuff, I place a prop under the...

Need to save DIY threads on mods 4 my truck

Since we are on the subject of Satellite. We went with Wild Blue a couple yeras ago and its better than Dial up, but its nothing to writ home to mom about. I was using a cellular widget with ATT and it was pretty good. Other family members wanted to set up a network so more than one person...

New projects looming on the horizon

No trick axles, just the factory 10 bolts that Ma General installed back in 85 For my daily driver they will work just fine. The 6.2 is pretty easy on axles. Just want a mileage getter is all and of course one that does not have SPARK PLUGS Missy

    4 Door Tahoe project

10 PSI is way too much fuel pressure. Back the delivery pressure down to about 4 PSI max. The high pressure is causing the advance to work when it should not. Missy

New projects looming on the horizon

As the DaHooooley Project comes to the final countdown and hopefully a joyful conclusion there are more good things in the wings. The little 85 Blazer is sitting in the shop now and is surrounded by lots of bits parts and pieces that, with any luck will end up being used to restore this fine...

Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

Yess Jim, I do understand the dual heater thingy :) Around here the temps don't normally get into the "Brass Monkey" zone though. Back in the winter of 2008 we had 2 weeks of heavy snow and bitter cold and were running the 94 Burb every day. Temps were in the low teens to high single digits...

Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

UPDATE Got back at the beastie this morning and its all ready to go back in the truck. :D I had to get the injectors, lines, intake and a handfull of tidbits back on, but after bolting the oil cooler lines back on, the sucker is all ready to drop back in the chassis. My thoughts are to plan...

HOW MUCH FUEL IS TO MUCH? Smoke is acceptable or not acceptable, EGT discussion

Every 6.5 turbo I have ever owned has struggled to break the 20 MPG mark. Usually 17-18 tops with the average at around 16 The huge cloud of BLACK smoke is unburned fuel, whicj equals MPG and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ out the tail pipe. The small puff of smoke on the Turbo enignes is not...

6.2 military engines @ Fort Bragg

I have seen bunches of the "Surplus" military engines for sale over the years. Got into a warehouse full of them a few years ago and had my run of the place to look them overand pick and choose. I found a lot of them that had serious issues and some that appeared to be "Intact" Sadly these...

    1994 Chevy suburban 6.5TD

EBAY is the ticket. I just looked and there are many listings. Just be sure of the gear ratio that you have. The label in the glove box should tell what ratio is in the truck. If not just look on the ring gear, or count the teeth on the ring and divide by the teeth on them pinion. 1/2 ton rigs...

    1994 Chevy suburban 6.5TD

A 10 bolt ring and pinion is an easy score and fairly cheap too. Did we ever figure out just what tranny is in the beast. Post a Picc'y of of tranny pan taken from the RH side if you can. Show the side of the tranny too if possible. Swapping out a gear set is not all that hard. Most good...

    1994 Chevy suburban 6.5TD

That rear axles sure looks like a 10 bolt (1/2 ton) My next question is, does the tranny have a cable running to it on the RH side near the front. If this was a gasser and a 1/2 ton then there is a very real reason to believe that the truck may have had a 700R4 swapped into it. The truck...

Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

Fast service on the fuel line for sure. Hope to get the last of the stuff on the engine this week. Pretty busy so not sure, but definately by this weekend. Good friend will come over and help me stuff the beast back into the chassis. I can do it alone, but its far easier with two people...

    NV4500 Swap to a CUCV..Starter problems....Everything else good.

Just because it s GR does not mean that it will work on a stick shift. There are far more autos out there than sticks. The issue is not the flywheel, they are basically all the same as far as the dimensions go. The cranks from the 6.2 to the 6.5 are the same assembled length. The early cranks...

    NV4500 Swap to a CUCV..Starter problems....Everything else good.

The starter is the issue. The stick shift uses a different starter. The aftermarket starters are all designed to work with a stick shift and will work with Both. The flywheels are compatible all across the 6.2/6.5 line. All years all engines. Again the stick shift starter will work with...

Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

Been back at it and got the valve covers all cleaned up and reisntalled on the engine. Just need to let the silicone gooooooooooooop cure and then I can go ahead and finish tightening the valve cover bolts and then install all the little brackets for the fuel lines and injector shields etc...
