Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

Yessssss, the seasoned citizen, haaaaaaaaaa. Old farts. Even at 60, I still dont think of myself as a senior citizen. Ohhhhh well, such is life. Well now, if this damned rain and sloppy weather will abate, we might get old Dahooley back up and running again. Been far too long. I got a...

Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

Thanks troops This morning (sun) is better still, with most all bodily functions coming back on line now, I am still pretty sore and tire out quickly, but overall, feeling great. YESSSSSSSSSS, hoping to get back to some tinkering this summer. The brand new engine for Dahooley is sitting on...

Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

Hi all Surgery was Monday the 1st at 8:30 and lasted only an hour and 45 minutes. I was in my room by 11:30 and by midnight was up and walking. Spent over two hours walking by late Tuesday. I wrangled getting discharged on Weds by noon, and believe me, that was no easy feat. Went to the shop...

Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

Well now. A long overdue update here. The truck is still sitting, and the new engine is sitting on the stand in the shop. In late May of 2012 I was diagnosed with a large kidney tumor and needed surgery to remove the kidney. Summer drug on with various set backs and still trying to work the...

    Radiator brand recomendations?

Visteon is the good stuff You absolutely DO NOT WANT one of the cheap ones off the net that has an epoxied core. This is where the tubes are epoxied into the head plate. The visteon OEM replacement units are all aluminum brazed cores and a very good quality. I paid IIRC $270 for a new one for...

    Piston Thickness 6.2 VS 6.5

The weight is the same. GM used the very same crank in the later 6.2 when the one piece cranks came into production.

    6.5 chip

I have one of Heaths chips in my 95 (OBD1) and its great. John Kennedy does a good one too. As mentioned, stay away from the older big name chips, they just dont adress many of the issues that are important for the health of the engine. Missy

    6.2 Cucv blazer MPG?

I had an 82 K5 that was bone stock with the 700R4 tranny, 3.42 gears. The stock 6.2 would get 24-25 Hwy and 18 around town. Had an 86 2500 Burb 4x4 with the 6.2, 4.10 gears TH400 tranny. This one would do 20-22 Hwy and 16 around town.

Where to find a AC hose

I bought a new set for my 95 Dually and got them from Macs Radiator in Portland Or Most large radiator and Auto AC suppliers should have that stuff readily available. Missy

Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

DaHooooley ihas turned green with moss and crud over the winter this year. BUTTTTTTTT as you said, spring is coming. The New Yellow Motor is sitting in the shop on the stand and ready to go in as soon as the weaqther is much drier and far warmer. Hell, the weather man is predicting SNOW here...

Source for a pair of good heads for the 1996 Suburban

Glad to hear of the GOOD NEWS If you ever find the need for heads. Clearwater Cyl head sells new heads for around $600 a set I have used them and they are good parts. New castings, not rebuilt heads. After fooling with the 6.5's for such a long time, I would not use any used heads. Just...

6.5L failed emissions smog test. Any ideas?

Just thinking You can easily fasten a quicky stop on the bottom of the pedal, this will not be easily visible and will solve the issue right quick. About half or 3/4 throttle should do it. You can test your stop by pressing the pedal down and seeing how the engine behaves. Set it so the...

6.5L failed emissions smog test. Any ideas?

I would talk to Bill Heath and get him to whip up a quicky flash that will drop the fuel off so that the beast will pass. Running the things right up on the governor and they will all smoke like hell. You are getting full fuel but very little boost from the turbo as the engine is not under a...

    Copper headgasket

Stay away from the Cometic. I used one on the DaHoooley build and it lasted a year and started leaking between the layers. FELPRO with either new bolts or studs. I had fresh heads and a decked block on that build too. The copper will not work well. If the block has a wire "O" ring installed...

    6.2 vs 454

The 6.2's (if in good order) could easily see 20+ MPG even in a 2500 Burb 4x4 As far as going to the trouble of swapping an engine inot a rig that is used for minimal service, ???? not sure on that one. A 454 with a well set up Quadrajet should get fair MPG unless being romped around hard...

    How to: K2500 front rotor / disc replacement - 8 lug, 4x4

Skimming through this thread a bit. Been through many of these over the years. On the subject of the 4 bolts that hold the bearing assembly into the knuckle assembly. DO NOT USE A THIN WALL 12 POINT SOCKET on these suckers. Either the socket can break or the bolt head rounds over. Use an...

Problems starting after fuel filter change

Here is the issue. If you just swapped filters then went to start the engine, you have stuffed the system full of AIR. UNhook the Large Pink/red wire from the injection pump. Open the air bleeder on the filter and have a helper crank the engine until you get air free fuel out the bleeder...

When Suppliers turn bad - a detour from hijacking 94DeiselSub's thread.

I have built a several 6.5 engines and some 6.2's as well. I have broke my share of these little critters and been called in as a consultant on a few others that have had issues. Knowing what I know about these engines, I would not EVEN make a warranty promiss to the effect, "You Break it we...
