I got 3 blocks sitting at home. Just a matter of what I got left to work with at this point. I got a 599 short block that was my original motor, a 506 block with cracked mains, and a 141 with bad heads and possibly a spun bearing. I could probably mix and match them and put together a motor but...
Yup, was an Optimizer, nothing is really salvageable. Cam and crank possibly, but split bad on every main. Heads had really bad cracks between valve as well, beyond being repairable.
The rod wasn't bent though then removed. Rod was snapped completely off at the base of the wrist pin and at the base of the connecting rod on the crank. No signs of being bent. I had been driving for probably 20minutes at highway speed (80mph/2700rpm) when it happened. Head gasket was perfect...
UPDATE: I tore it completely down this weekend. #7 had a small nick out of the bottom of the cylinder and #8 had a larger chunk. I talked to my engine builder who said #8 will have to be sleeved and #7 should be ok as is. Crank and block will get mag-flux'd and mic'd. There was absolutely so...
It ran was still running in still I shut it off. Just shook like a MOFO and sounded nasty. Wouldnt have ran for long with the waterfall of oil coming out from it though. I basically helped latch a piece of the insterstate lol
I spy with my little eye, a snapped connecting rod on #8. Crank is oddly just fine, though a small chunk did get taken out of the side of the block. I am going to talk with my engine building and see if we can't sleeve it. I doubt it though.
For fun, I posted on a Cum Dumpster forum on facebook for fun that I was going to swap a 6.5L I had in place of my blown 12valve 5.9L "because I had the spare motor, cheap parts, and wanted something reliable". OMFG the world blew a top lol It was the funniest shit ever.
Well, with all things considered, my folks let me borrow an old little Ranger they had while mine is toast. I think I am going to buy it off them and retire the six nickle to "project" status so I can go all out on it. Which means I can finally get my intercooler going, along with compounds and...
The MT with an ATT was great, although it had it's Achilles heal; the 3rd-4th rpm drop. It takes a lot to spool the ATT back up after that large of an rpm drop. Unloaded it was fine, and mileage was around 20mpg. So pretty good. Cruising boost was around 3psi at 2500rpm light throttle. The...
Ok, well my pump guru really got me thinking yesterday with a comment he made. There's no reason that connecting rod should have broke. I had talked to my pump guru a while back about a tiny little knock every so often and suspected my injectors were starting to go out and was planning to order...
It finally happened. Nothing even exciting. Was just cruising down the road to work this morning, cruise set at 70mph, and what I can only assume is the connecting rod, decided she had to leave the party and wipe my brand new starter out with it. This was on my Optimizer 506 block
