Almost all oem gas/diesel induction systems nowadays implement resonance traps and desinged countermeasures.
These are the strange looking molded plastic appendages on the intake tube before (after) the filter box. Actually even the filter boxes are designed as part of that sys. Vehicle...
So over the years quite a few people have tossed the idea around of direct injecting a 6.5 via c/r injectors adapted to fit down to were the cups reside. This has yet to physically manifest its self due to high cost, complexity, and the need for a dmax or aftermarket pcm & whole-lot-of-tunning...
BTW, I'm currently running a ep158 pump, not terribly happy with it! It hammers my firewall mounted secondary filter like a jackhammer at idle, and goes dead quite ( probably no pressure) at anything past 1/3 throttle.
These shuttle type lift pumps basically fail by design. The only ones...
So about a year ago on one of my summit racing visits, on an impulse bought a Carter P4601HP. My thoughts are yes some have complained about them failing on diesel.
But - years ago I came across a forum (don't know which one) were a member stated he thought his Carter pump failed. He got a...
@TSP,
Thanks for sharing the data sheets!
Although, I did notice the over/under sized options were very small deviation from the std spec. For new builds perhaps GEP tries to adhere to only those? But for mil reman's, I could if sworn I seen p/n's for +/- 1 & 2 thousands and possibly even...
I think over the years I have greatly under estimated the structural strength of a real hmmwv! This was based on the underwhelming performance of the consumer H1's in that department!
Bam Margera from the "Jackass" MTV crew used to beat on all of his vehicles on his show, including a H1. On a...
@Rogerhsr,
Glad you got the starter issue fixed, was it somehow also the source of your crank being hard to rotate too? Maybe ring gear on the flex/flywheel sightly out of round?
@WarWagon,
I wish I could say I can metally keep all of the details straight - but. So in talking with Peninsular...
@ the OP,
Not sure if you resolved the binding crank issue yet? Think you said the #3 thrust bearing was too tight?
Just to cover all the bases - what others have coined as "select fit" bearings is a rather significant point in regards to the 6.2/6.5 engine! These blocks are machined green...
@Will L.
Holy Cr@p, that wall vid made me cringe!!!
You must drive that thing like you stole it!
I've had past hated vehicles that I've seriously contemplated setting on fire, but still wouldn't of done that to 'em.
Forgive my ignorance, but doesn't the hmmwv have front frame horns (hvy duty...
Hi all,
So let me just put this out there, it was not my intention to start a flame-war on a supporting vendor/member!!!
TSP from all accounts has a very good customer track record, and the owner seems to be a stand-up individual! So I'd like to nip any derogatory discussion of his products...
@Will L.,
Thanks for the heads up on the handle typing shortcut. Sorry if I missed your pm! I usually view various forums on my cell - yeah I know, I'm surrounded by pc cans, laptops & tablets and here I am viewing/typing this on this tiny cell screen.
BTW, my name is Chris too.
So Chris at...
@ TSP,
Please don't take my comments as being derogatory towards your proto dev! Quite frankly, its almost amazing that someone is still developing for this platform, not alone possible offering new products for sale.
Not sure who it was that responed to this thread, but they sounded versed in...
@ FellowTraveler,
I think Will L just about nailed it. Just good enough to compete with the other offerings for the model year. Keep in mind, the auto industry's tried & true strategy of the slow incremental performance gains per model year. Much like engineered-in obsolescence, tiered tech...
As a side note, the GM TPI was originally designed to make 350ci tq out of a 305ci engine. And lets face it, most of GM's 305 were econo weaksause power plants.
Much like how the 5.7 dropped the TPI's operating range down from the 305, if fitted to a 6.5 it would drop down to a near perfect...
TSP,
Your tapered runners are interesting, and the links you posted earlier are something to take note of! While probably nowhere as efficient an heat exchanger as say gm's integrated air/coolant designs (LSA, LS9) for the eaton blowers, I believe the packaging is the right design direction...
Happy Holidays to all,
I haven't posted in a while, some tubo-brothers on a forum kinda rubbed me the wrong way about a Eb@y find I shared.
Anywho, a fab'ed intake will certainly make more up-top hp but I fear you'll be sacrificing lowend tq in the tradeoff!
Strangely the 80's L98 TPI intake...
@3500_6.5,
Just wanted to thank you for an excellent posting in this thread!
I frequent this & another (Place) 6.5 friendly Forum. The amount of ego-centric bantering noise regularly strewn as authoritative knowledge can really become discourage at times.
Unbiased real world results are gold...
@ Sentinelist – Man you got Murphy chasing you I think! I was excited to hear about your upgrades, wasn’t anticipating reports of a loud metallic engine knock.:nonod: But if that engine's got 280K-miles on it, it’s already served very well for a 6.5L! Hoping you find it’s just a leaky...
